ERRATIC TEMPRATURE GAUGE

Hi All

Recently purchased my 2000 A3 1.8TS I've onl just recently noticed that the temp gauge isnt fuctioning correctly - sometimes it just reads at 60c even when im pushing it then sometimes it sits nicely at 90c and this morning I actually saw it move from 60 to about 80 in 2 or 3 seconds, sat there for a bit then it went back to 60!?!? No other problems no lag no problem at idle no problem with acceleration!

Im not very technically minded so the more basic the advice the better please

Temperature Sender. Do a search, it's a very common problem.
