Audi A3 tdi ~ clutch & flywheel knackered! :(

I have an Audi A3 (52 plate) 1.9tdi (130)


It has just been in for a service, and they said the clutch & flywheel need replacing...!!


the parts & labour costs I have been quoted are ridiculously expensive!!
the flywheel is the killer....!!

also ...is it worth paying extra to get an uprated clutch, as may get the car remapped sometime??

Looks like another one bites the dust lads! I think about every forum member has suffered now! GSF charged me £400 for Clutch Flywheel and Slave Cylinder which also acts as the release bearing. Then it cost me £180 to get it all fitted. Maybe cheaper for TDI especially if not Quattro.

If you have your TDI remaped it maybe an idea to get an uprated clutch - flywheel should be ok.

Do a search you'll find loads of info.

Join the club my S3 is in at the mo getting the clutch n flywheel done plus cambelt!!!

Find a good local independant garage preferably an audi specialist and get them to do the work as its the labour costs at the stealers that hikes up the cost so much, still turns out to be quite expensive though.

It's because it's a dual mass flywheel. The clutch itself is only about £70 or £80 at cost price but the flywheel is about £200. So it's not cheap anywhere unfortunatly.

Where are you based? I recently had my clutch changed by www.vagtech.co.uk and it was £470 all in. Flywheel would be extra, but give them a call if you're around Herts/Beds as they're top lads.

mines goin in on monday, my uprated clutch cost 400 quid in a group buy, should have been 500, gettin it fitted from a good mate should b around 150 quid labour...jus waiting for my release beariing from vag parts, it was nice and cheap from them!

one of them has done 44k = £117.50 delivered

the other 24k = £ 147 delivered

Hi Lee. I recently had my clutch & flywheel replaced. I never considered going salvage. I guess you could and hopefully it will all be ok, but personally I would want a new kit put in. Are you planning on keeping the car for a while? Maybe that will help you decide? Also, have you sought a second opinion? That might sound silly, but it could be a garage's way to get some extra custom -It might just be the clutch.

As for getting it fitted, again you will want somewhere competent, and hope the kit you provide will be up to scratch. Maybe if you call a few garages or pop in, you could ask for their opinions on a used unit?

How old is it? I wouldn't say it's a mistake. I wouldn't be worrying about that at that kind of mileage. There's plenty of users on here with mapped A3's and S3's still running on a standard clutch at double that mileage. Inspect the car as usual, follow the buying guide (sticky in this forum) for a few tips. Check the service history to see what's been done and when etc.

i would most definately not put in second had clutch and flywheel.

it could have been abused really badly, and you will get a few days out of it... and a lot of the cost is the labour.

buy right.. buy once
