That's a shocker indeed! I reckon a Polo must weigh not much different, and I know even the Seat ibiza weighs over 1100kg...!! weird

Its all there if you google, the Quattro takes it up in weight, and we all know the quattro is approx 300kgs heavy, so the numbers add up too.
