When going over rough or uneven ground I get lots of clunking from the front of my car. I've had plenty of Golfs before and this usually means the suspension top mounts are worn, is this the case with A3's too??

Hmmm nah it can be lots of things mate - top mounts, bushes, ball joints etc.

Prob bushes are your best bet

I'll get under there later then and take a look. Hopefuly if I can work out what its is then I can get the garage that I bought it from to sort foc when they service it next week.

What are the best bushes to use, standard rubber or uprated poly ones?
