when to change cambelt on 2000 S3?

After a bit of information....

does anyone know when you should change the cambelt on a 2000 S3?...My cars coming up for its 60K service and was wondering whether i should get it done at the same time....

also what does Audi officially say about when to get it changed?

Audi will tell you 115K if its pre-facelift, dont even risk it mate, 5 years or 80K i'd say.

If i was you ,I'd get it done, about £300 indep with waterpump, £600+ at most audi dealers but ive seen a couple of people say cheaper than that recently.

When i had mine done the guy said to me that they now check them visually every 20K !! apparently alot of belts snapping early ...

They say 80K for the facelift, but as i say 5/6 years as well ,

Its your call but peace of mind and all that ....I know its a bit of stinger for a belt and a pump but most of its labour, imagine the bill if it snaps ! prob in the thousands .....

Mine is a nov 2000 X reg facelift with 27k on the clock. Had mine done with water pump last month due to the age of the belt more than anything.
As said earlier 80k or 5 years, however you will hear of variations on this but as your belt is over six years old it may be wise to change now.

WOW, Thats such low mileage !!! Thats like 3.5K a year ! Would you not be cheaper to grab a taxi when you need to get somewhere ?!!?! lol, only kidding mate

I bought it of a friend who picked it up last year with 12k on it.
He bought it off an old gentleman in Northampton, serviced every year regardless of mileage.
Friend has gone to America for a couple of years so i gladly took it off his hands for 8.5k.

Yup! Audi changed their minds on this last year and now recommend every 60k for the S3.

The cambelt on my 52 reg S3 snapped at 86k and cost £2120 to fix so i'd get it changed soon as poss just to be on the safe side

I agree there have been a lot of posts on this toppic, but since mine is going for the 60k service next week I don't mind knowing everything I can about what should and shouldn't be done.

I'm gonna get mine done in about 2k miles. Been quoted £260 inc waterpump. Looks like a good quote from what's been said above!

the dealers quoted me £540 for the cam belt and 300-380 for the service depending on where i take it!!!.....

im thinking of going to an audi specialist who quoted me £160 for the service and £290 for cam belt....but im going to get the cambelt from audi for £80 and get them to use the original part so the cambelt might be a bit cheaper than what they quoted....

didnt realise how expensive an audi was going to be when i bought it altho having said im glad i didnt as i probably wouldnt have bought it if i knew and i do love driving it!1

They're only expensive if you go to the dealers.
Specialists are pretty much the same as any car, £40-£45 per hour and pretty much all OEM parts are made by Bosch, Mann, Jurid and nothing to do with Audi. Audi don't make any of the maintenance parts, including the cambelt, but they'll charge you a premium for the having the 4rings stamped onto them.

I recommend getting your spare parts from your local motor factors. The cambelt kit I got for my S3 is a Gates Powergrip, and the Standard OE Audi belt that was fitted onto the car had Gates printed on it, the only difference is it had an Audi logo on the belt!

When buyers are looking for a car, full service history esp from audi would be a good selling point but what about the cam-belt change...do people consider getting it done by audi as a good selling point too or just getting it done at the right time is the more important thing....

im not sure how long ill be keeping the car, but just thinking is it worth me paying loads and keeping with an audi service history.....and whether i will get my money back when i sell as its no point spending alot and finding that it doesnt affect the price of my car a significant amount when compared to other similar cars w/o a FASH.....hmmm

any comments appreciated
