Hi All,
After three months of owning an S3, and four years of owning an A3 1.8T prior to that, I could resist the temptation of remap no longer (never did it to the A3). With all the talk of excellent gains, transformed driving experiences and OEM like reliability the £4-500 started to sound like a bit of a bargain.
After much deliberation about custom vs. generic maps and which tuner to choose I decided on a custom job at Jabbasport. Peterborough is a fair distance from manchester but the wealth of experience available from Jabba together with the number of positive experiences I've heard about their service made it seem like the right choice. The long A roads on the journey home had nothing to do with the decision, honest
Anyway, to the important bit! After the 4 hours of magic by Mr Trulock (Jabba's Technical Director) the keys were handed to me for test drive. I turn the key and drive the car out of the car park noticing just how normal everything felt, for some reason I was expecting there to be a tell tail sign of changes, not sure why really but anyway....I pull on to the dual carriageway and give the throttle a gentle poke to 3k rpm and it feels different, there's a much more pronounced turbo at the later end of the 2k rpm. I then slowed as some traffic was turning off which left me with a clear straight. Feeling the excitment growing I hit throttle, not floored, just quickly but progressively. What a difference!!! Effortless pace and a good punch in the back all the way through to 6k. It is still smooth, but its certainly clearly recognisable that there's a decent turbo under there now. The in-gear pace from 70 to 120 is a world away from what it was, gob smacking performance from a little 1.8 4 pot.

According to Mike, the dip at about 5250rpm was due to the car losing stability on the rolling road. I couldn't confirm that as I didn't physically see it, but I certainly can't feel any dip in power when in the car. It just feels strong but smooth all the way. I don't have a print out of the before figures but I'm told it ran 228bhp, but again I have no evidence.
There'll be those that comment on the power figures being inaccurate etc etc, and feel free to do so if you want as I don't really mind. All I know is that the car now feels far more capable and agile (which is impressive considering mine weighs in at 1432kg).
All in all, I was very satisfied with Jabba, they really seem to know what they're taking about and the car feels great. If you're thinking about getting it mapped, JUST DO IT!. I'd read other peoples posts and wondered if it was worth it, and now I know that it is
