My front left tyre blew out on a dual carriage way in the early hours of this morning.
Had to leave it by the road and go get it at 1st light this morning!

Was going about 90mph (yes i know, tut tut etc), and almost killed myself as it went all over the road - was lucky not to hit anything and am glad my car is in one piece!

Will be driving a bit slower from now on!

Nasty...and lucky you managed to keep control.

Something like that happened to my old car..coming down the A1, just had NO2 added to it and was coming down from a top end test, got down to about 85 i think, when the nearside rear blew throwing me into the central reservation and removing most of the right handside of the car....

luckiliy the barrier kept me basically in a straight line until It came to a stop..the car only had the offside wheels left..I had actually lost both wheels from the near side.
BMW charged the insurance company £13800 in repairs, plus they had to pay £800 for barrier repairs..

I could of been soooo much worse.. it had the same effect on me strangely...I slowed down (for a while)

my rear dunlop P9000? blew out! rear nearside inner side! threw me in a ditch! not to bad an fixed now but i wont buy dunlops again!
think the camber of the wheel may have worn the inside (cars lowered) heading to star for new bars so it doesnt happy again!

Ed, that looks really nasty!! this is the worst I've seen! Glad your ok.

****** hell, at least you must have been close to home? Did you not have a spare wheel you could have swapped it for?

mine did the same, near side innner edge - it was purely wear - I had the tracking checked at micheldever tyres ,it was 0.5 degree toed OUT! that is masses by all accounts, no surprise the idiot owner before me had problems with tyre wear. Worth getting them checked by a specialist for everyone I would suggest the best £20 youll spend - and DONT go to quickfit or somesuch.

It was a dunlop sp sport tyre.
Not sure why it blew out. Weird thing was that i checked my tyres the previous morning and they were all ok.

I did have a spare but it was too dark to change it, and it was on grass so i couldnt get the jack to settle. Went back at 5.30 (first light) to change it armed with a concrete tile to rest the jack on.

I worry about that happening especially on long fast motorway runs in the outside lane!!!! Luck or skill that you didn't end up worse off. :scared2:

After this happened by steering wheel shakes when braking moderately hard (but doesnt when braking softly or really hard)

Any ideas what it could be caused by?

I was just about to buy a set of dunlop sp tyres but after seeing that i think i'll get something else.

Could of put your tracking out with the blowout.
