The cars at a local Audi/VW specialist in Dartford at the moment having a few problems fixed but its come to light that my head gasket is on its way out! I can’t believe it I’ve been told it could cost around £600-£700 to repair!

Is this a normal price? I said ill leave it for the time being and think about what to do. I really can’t afford to fix it at the mo or for at least a few months. Will it be ok to leave that long?

Also one other major problem is it was misfiring due to one of the sparkplugs getting burnt out, I’ve replaced all 4 with the expensive NGK plugs but the garage said it’s a matter of time before one of the plugs gets burnt away again and it starts to misfire. Is there a way to fix this and is it expensive? Just don’t want to have to keep replacing a plug every month or so.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks guys

Allan

how many miles has your car done??
unfrtunatly 6-700 sounds about right from an audi dealer try and find an vw/audi specialist in you area should be cheaper, don't leave it too long though as water in the oil or vice versa can really damage your engine ruining coolant and lubrication.
as for your misfiring could be due to oil getting through your headgasket to the cylinder, but i'm not sure. is it smoking alot when you drive it hard?? like burning oil.

hi, yes in the mornings its just pure white smoke coming out the back, cars on 80k.

That price was quoted from a local audi/vw specialist guess i better shop around see who can do it cheapest for me.

i better go find my credit card.....

it sounds like you are getting water in to the cylinders(white smoke), definitley a cause of your spark plug problem. the cheapest you will be looking at is in the region of 5-600, sorry!!!!!!!
