    Traction light

Not been on here in ages!

Just before the service the traction light has come on my TQ, Audi reckon its the Haldex controller and want Ł800 to replace it, a couple of questions

    1. Does it sound like thats the problem?

    2. How big a job is it?

The first step is to see what comes up in VAG-COM.

You cannot move any further forward until then.

Indeed, we cannot help you any further until you tell us what, if any, errors are coming up in VAG-COM.

There is no point me or anyone else guessing at this stage as it could be a number of things.

James, my Haldex controller was gone when i bought my S3 and i could tell it was not right by the way it put the power down. The traction control light was not on in my car but as Stewart said it could be something else wrong with your car. As for Ł800, i had a used 1 fitted by Star Performance for Ł200! You can buy a uprated controller for Ł600 and i don't think it is that big a job to fit.

I had this problem too some months ago when I washed my K&N filters. Check if the MAF cable is corectly connected. I forgot to connect and when I reconnected , the light turned off... very strange...

Have you had VAG-COM hooked up to your car yet?

Not yet as I don't know anyone who has it, I was thinking about this earlier though and if the dealer wants to charge me Ł800 to fit a part to resolve the problem then surely that part is faulty, or is that wishful thinking?

If you want to pay £800 then fine but you may always be doubtful whether that was actually the problem...
Where in the country are you? It would be worth going to your nearest VAG specialist and paying for the VAG-COM check.

    Your missing my point.

You don't know for sure what the problem is so how can you go out and buy a part with any confidence??

Please just get your car checked on VAG-COM before doing anything.
