As I understand it the S3 can detect what oil is in the car and then from this calculates the no of miles till the next service.

If my car had regular engine oil put in on the last service and I now want to go for the long life is that okay or does this cause a problem?

Some guy just told me that once you put normal oil in you cant go back to the 20000 mile service regime.

What do you guys think?

Yep, it can be reprogrammed. But IMO AVS isn't worth it if you are planning on keeping the car. Rather than spending large amounts of money on some trick oil, I'd rather use a decent oil and change it regularly.

I drop the oil every 5000 miles & change the filter. Use a fully synthetic like Synta Gold or Halfrauds own brand (regularly on 2 for 1) and you can have an oil change for well under £30 if you DIY.
