Do you think it's knackered? As i don't think it boosts properly either. But the filter has helped.

What do you mean? you'll need to be less technical (female) it's just where the standard air box was.

Is the filter 'exposed' to the engine bay or is it 'boxed' or surrounded by some sort of heat shield?

If it is completely un-protected from the heat of the engine then that's bad. Much worse than the OE airbox with a paper filter (which is actually quite good).

If it is open to the heat of the engine then it will draw in hot air and you'll be producing less power because of it.

I get what your saying now but it feels like i'm getting more power. Still to get a cold air feed made up when i do a battery to boot conversion.

Still doesn't answer the noise question tho

Are you saying yours 'charrs' or 'dumps'?

If it charrs, i have no idea what that sounds like...

Are both you and your friend running the same car with the same modifications/boost?

Mines dumps like a normal DV whoosh noice and his makes a wastegate charring noise like rally cars, running the same as him.

Heading to Dastek to get it on the rollers to see if something is wrong.

Wastegate flutter or chirruping on a closed loop diverter system like ours indicates the diverter valve (DV) is knackered. If he is running the standard DV then its knackered and the diaphragm has split which is very very common.
