Hi guys got a little problem here,

This morning car was fine driving down the causeway gave it some stick then as i pull into the BP garage it's all of a sudden got really loud like scooby sort of sound, and the whole engine is juddering.

When driving it now its like its misfing and ive used a hell of a lot of petrol?

What shall i do? change the plugs what? is it safe to drive it as it is? Hardly any power there whatsoever??? im confused!

Jason

Hey Jason

Exactly same thing as you describe happened to my S3 on Friday ended up being numer 2 coilpack i can pretty much say it will be your coilpack aswell.

£176 later after being with camberly audi for a day they changed the coilpack, problem resolved.

Good luck with it

£176 to change one coil pack! Ten minute job once diagnosed. And it only takes about ten minutes to diagnose with vagcom.

Coil packs are only about £28

dont know what to do guys, if it was coilpack would it have just gone like that?

im going to have to get this into a garage i guess! is it safe to drive to work?

Jason

i have a feeling 178 quid was for all coilpacks to be replaced :)

Yes coilpacks as opposed to a distributor are pretty digital. They will just suddenly go. There was a bunch of problems with some of the coilpack versions and Audi were replacing them free of charge. I wouldn't drive it if you can help it as you're driving on 3 cylinders, and I guess you could knacker the CAT with all the unburnt fuel? (someone correct me if I'm wrong).
Easy to find the guilty cylinder, just pull off the HT leads with the engine running until you find one that doesn't make a difference and that's the one that's failed.

Right guys can you just confim that what ive doen is right?

there are 4 blue ruber bits with a clip on them i tookthem all off didnt start 1 on started but Very Lumpy 2 getting better 3 better still then the 4th on and no change.

SDo im looking at coil pack yes? Just want to make sure what im saying is right for when i get it booked in to be done.

Quick suggestion for you

check your injector plugs, one of mine pops loose and the car will run exactly as your describing, just push it back on and all is well.

Might be an idea to check before you go buying bits.

Pop the middle cover off and you will be able to see the two plugs, one at either end of the manifold give them both a push down

Sounds like it is the coil pack.

Dotn get it done at a garage you can do it yourself - piece of **** mate

Can somebody please tell me of somewhere in surrey that deals with audis?

Dont really want a mobile mechanic Audi will be ££ im thinking ideally need it done pretty quick for work and that.

Any ideas?

had this prob on my old a4, intercooler pipe had come off. fixed it on side of road. - loss of power, loads of noise and turbo whistle. jubilee clip was loose on the hose leaving intercooler across front of engine cradle. took engine tray off and reached up to get it back on. took 10 mins. run the engine so you can hear which one has come off.

like you said, happened when you gave it some stick - boost pressure blows the hose off and it sounds like exhaust has fell off.

LOL dont worry you will never know if you dont ask questions! if you look in you pic the coil packs are the 4 black box looking things with green writing on them and 2 allen keys holding them in. You can see half of them in the top of ur pic!

Oh right i see i know now! Im confused some people are saying blown hose on the intercooler and some saying coilpacks!

Guess i need this on Vagcom but i need it sorted asap because of my job.

thanks again!

thought id give you a little update:

Handed it over this morning to a german specialist in woking near where i live.

I ring them back earlier to find out, its running on 3 cylinders, compression is fine plugs are fine, coil pack is fine so at the moment they dont know what it is.

no faults showing up either so im pretty ****** off at the moment,

im thinking its going to be costing me £££££ just my luck after shedding out £600 to have all my shocks done on saturday.

cheers

Jason
