My clutch is on its last legs. Is it worth getting a performance clutch or should i just stick to the standard ones. Any recomendations on what brand and model. cheers

If its not remapped I wouldn't bother with an uprated clutch - its not really required. Just get an LUK or equivilent.

seems like we are all having our clutches go - if anyone on here has had theirs replaced maybe you could submit details of cost and recommendations etc ?

it seems you can pay anything from £600 (specialist) to £1250 (audi) and also have options on using the standard clutch which seems likely made by LUK or various upgraded units

im brave enough to do most jobs on my car but the clutch scares me... a lot

The clutch should cost about £200 and the same for labour. In all fairness I don't see why an audi specialist needs to do the work, I'd personally use a clutch specialist. I had mine changed in the MK4 golf for £120. Not sure about the S3 with it being 4wd

that is the key '4WD'

having owned a few 4wd cars i know that the clutch is always more expensive than a 2wd variant of the same car when it comes to replacing

£200 for the clutch seems ok - does that include the dual mass flywheel ?

£200 for labour is very good !

I would happily take my car to a clutch specialist if someone could recommend one in SW london / surrey

I have seen places that look like kwik fit but just do clutches but i dont think they would be the right place to work on an S3 - maybe im wrong ?

Its been remapped, standard Revo map. CAI kit. Custom FMIC, and forge Recirc DV, i think its a 007p..i bought it from a mate who had it on a ibiza cupra. Also a standard system with a sebring backbox(which i know dont make a difference performance wise.)..There is also plenty more to come too.
So, with this in mind.. I wanna quality clutch.. And i am willing to pay a little more for it. Labour cost isnt an issue for me. Has anyone fitted a performance clutch or clutch kit. And again any recomendation..

Mine has an MTM paddle clutch, which went before Christmas. I use Performance Driven in Taunton, who have put a new clutch plate in (£200) and it also needed a new flywheel (£300), plus labour. Ouch!

I just had a new clutch fitted in mine today, my dad owns a garage so one of the lads did it. He was on it a day solid, no-one at work has done one before so was all new to him. Job probably would have ended up around the £600-700 mark to a paying customer.

thanks for the info joe6886 - how much did the parts come to ?

Think the clutch was £100 trade price and Slave cylinder about £60 trade price. Then about 7-8 hours labour at about £25 an hour.
