VERY VERY Annoyed!!! My car today put my foot down in 3rd gear at 2k and the revs flew upto 3k with the clutch slipping like mad!!! Its just started doing this had a remap last week and its done 68k miles!! What i dont understand and would like some more views on this is the fact it did it once and only once and now ive just drove from bristol to harrow and ive tried flooring it in 5th 3rd loads of diff gears at diff rpms and it doesnt do it!!!!

IDEAS??

Cheers mark:banghead:

Unfortunately thats the way they start to go

It'll start happening more and more in time

it can happen as a one off like that, u may have just left the clutch at a half bite for a fraction too long. i did it once (standard tdi130) i pulled off from a nearly standstill in 2nd gear and slipped the clutch a little, never done it again.

Although it has been said that when remapping to 180 ish that a hidden cost is the need for a clutch at some point. saying that though my mate has a 130 golf mapped to 188 and hes had no clutch trouble in a year and a half.

yeh its really ****** me off because a new clutch aint cheap because of the dual mass flywheel any of you guys know any really cheap places to buy clutches or get them fitted????

Cheers

cheapest quote so far is £727 for flywheel aswell all fitted

do u have to replace the whole kit kaboodle? whenever ive changed clutches (not yet my a3) i have just changed the bearing and the pressure plate / friction plate whatever u wana call it.

im nt to sure tbh i hope i dont need a new flywheel aswell tho it might just be a random slip for some reason because as i said ive driven 130 miles and it hasnt done it since

I've been looking into getting mine replaced too soon, its not neccessary to have the flywheel changed too! just depends if your clutch failing is buggering the flywheel.

i know that on my A3 1.8T the clutch parts are about £230 but the flywheel is around £600

I spoke to jabba and they said that a SACHS clutch kit with a single mass flywheel will be as good as whats already in there! for the clutch and flywheel fitted it was £607 inc labour and VAT.

Give jabba a call

Dave

it happened to a friend of mine with an a3 130 aswell, got him all worried. I shouldn't lose any sleep over it. if ure not doing standing starts all the time it'l prob last a good while, just bear in mind that it will go one day so put a little aside here and there. An a3 cant be much different to any other car surely, u can prob just change the pressure plate ( and its always advisable to get the bearing changed ) On my old VW Lupo i had a new pressure plate assembly and a new bearing for £30 from a friend who knows a sum1 who makes the things.

yeh oh well its one of those annoying things but i will put money aside anyway!!!

Dave- i will call jabba now thanks

It sounds like your clutch doesn't like the extra torque from the remap. The colder weather might not help.
It would be worth checking for an oil leak, just in case that is causing the problem.

ive not done an a3. but on my old car because of the space i had to remove one engine mount to lower one side of the engine down on a jack so i could get the gearbox off (was tight for space) then simply remove old clutch and re-assemble as taken off. haynes is always good.

okie dokie i think i would prefer to pay a garage tbh as for warranty and stuff!!!

this happened to me too.

got SACHS OE clutch from Euro parts and new concentric slave. fitting cost 120 quid at a VW specialist approx 300 all together.

its not bad as expected. p.s my car had done 56k and re-map showed up bad clutch.

all ok now
