It cant hurt, im sure ive read that they arent really neccesary tho. I've certainly never needed a tool to drop the suspension, but i've never done it on the A3 tbh

That looks like a top mount nut tool.
What are you planning to do to the suspension? You'll need a tool like that to remove the top mount and spring from the strut.

basically im fitting coilovers so i want the whole suspension out. do you know what size sockets i;ll need?

scarying reading here.......You will need a set of spring clamps to compress the spring ...the tool above is as squirrel says a strutmount nut tool which you will need to take off to change the spring ......

i dont want to get the spring off the shock. i just want the whole shock out so i can fit coilovers....
