Audi want £233.50 for new pads! Help!!

My S3's in for it's service today and Audi have just called and said that my pads are worn and I should replace them.

£138.37 for the front and £95.13 for the rear ! Eeeek..

I have told them to hold off as I am sure that I can get them done aftermarket for a lot less, but now I'm not sure??

My S3 is standard, so the question is: What should I be paying for replacement pads? I seem to remember reading here that Greenstuff may be a good replacement??

Could you suggest any other pads I could use and if you know of any fitters in the Lincs area, it would be a great help!

You don't want greenstuff on an S3, maybe the redstuff but not green. And yes, that sounds way too expensive for pads. I'd say thanks but no thanks then go to an independant.

I think Star Performance charged me about £25 fitted for Pagid rear pads. Even if I go with OE Porsche pads for the front they're only about £75.

I myself would not go green stuff and dero not red
Red are for rallying and will not work at their best until up to temp. The chances are you would not get them up to temp until after approx 4 or 5 miles , braking up to then will be :cough: rubbish

Try a fast road pad , I dont like green stuff myself and the dealings I have had with them found that they was warping discs

Tarox Strad pads http://www.awesome-gti.co.uk/tarox.html link I think are excellent and the strada pads are fast road so will be excellent for road and odd track days if you needed them

Greenstuff pads are no longer recommended for cars over 200bhp. Have a look (can't be hooped finding the link) at what happened to Ess_Three's greenstuff pads when he was using them.

Try a skoda dealer or VW. Same pads as fitted to golf anni and I think skoda VRS (older model with the green claipers).

I got my anni fronts for £80. TBH, I have stopped using all aftermarket pads now, I have to say the mkivs brakes on stock 312mil stuff are fabulous. I had pagids on an escort a few years back and they were rubbish, just did not stop the car!! So gave up and now do OEM all the time.

Try skoda and the online VW parts boys, even ebay.

#I think you can get front mintex off the bay for £55 if you do want aftermartket ones.

noodle go to sutton auto factors in lincoln, i normally get mintex pads from them and there usually cheapest place about aswell. i think there about £40-50.

I managed to get new front pads, front discs and rear pads from audi at trade price, came in at £200 including a bottle of brake fluid.

thanks all. sounds like i've made the right decision not to go with audi on this occasion. the total service was £350.00 including haldex oil change, so another £200 on top would have been quite a bill!

Just buy pads and change them yourself, its really not difficult and should cost you about £40 or so

We sell Apec which are very good pads, off the top of my head i think its about £15 for rears and about £30 for fronts.
