Probably put this poll in the wrong place for unbiased answers! lol! I've voted for the S3 as it's the best car I've driven out of the 4 options, although I've never driven a Focus RS. They're all very good cars though, amongst my fave's!

Hmmm. Asking S3 enthusiasts if their car is better than the others?! Can't think what the results will show.

i considered them all before buying the S3, the civic is like a people carrier, the seat just doesnt feel right when you put the power down, the focus was very hard and skitty on the road (well the one i drove was Ive read they all drive different !!!! ooops that was a st doh )

Best at what?

Best at looking good?
Best to drive?
Best interior?
Best brakes?

All 4 standard, the S3 is the dullest to drive, but probably the nicest to own and live with in all weathers...

The Focus RS is a great drivers car...but has a cheesy interior...

The Leon would be the most practical...great brakes.

The CTR pretty good but in my view, not worthy of a Type-R badge...and just not special enough.

Overall S3, then probably the CTR, would be thinking of the S3 if I bought the Leon and don't really fancy spending a lot of time in the Ford although I haven't driven one so it may win me round but I doubt it.

The RS focus has brembo breaks, sparco seats & OZ wheels. Its quick my mate has one but lack of equipment lets it down no xeon's, heated front window (Like all other focuses) the list goes on.

The Civic is also pretty quick my mate has one of them again not much equipment but not a bad car at all.

Leon i know hardly anything about apart from the 1.8 T & brembos.

The S3 in my opinion is the best all rounder although it may not be as quick as the above it is fully loaded comfortable to drive & when pushed can be good especially round bends & on roundabouts ;-).

Of course we know the S3 is best ... :sly:

However, if I had to go out and buy one, I think I'd go for the Leon. Great value, well-specced and a great drive. Bit different too.

If I wanted a pure drivers car, i'd have the RS.
If I wanted a great all-rounder, then the S3 would win...but it really is pretty poor (I'm being kind) to drive...as standard.
I like the Leon...but don't know...
The CTR would be last for me...just too common and chavvy for me.

i also think the focus will be chavvy soon, just something about a ford I cant get my head round don`t kno why,

just wish I had bought a escort cosworth when i had the chance :(

As an all round fun car with great presence on the road/driveway,............it just HAS to be the RS Focus.

As said, wrong place to ask whats best when you have only 1 audi on the list!

For me it would be

S3
RS
Leon Cupra R
CTR

I did look at them all when i bought the S3 and it shortly became my favourite.

CTR's are far too common, leon cupra R is poormans S3 and the RS was too basis for the money!

This could of been an interesting poll if the S3 hadnt been included

I totally agree! I drove a Focus RS for a few hundred miles and it was great fun but to be honest, I wouldn't want to do many more miles than that. The drivers seat wouldn't go low enough for me (even compared to the S3), it also felt as if there was a ridge through the middle of it which meant my backside couldn't get comfortable and the interior is just disgusting IMO (look great on the outside though)!

As much as the S3 just wants to go straight on in most corners I'd much rather have it as an everyday car, it eats up the miles, does put a grin on your face (IMO) and even the wife can drive it safely!

I hate the CTR but that's probably because I don't own a Thomas Burglary baseball cap and the Leon doesn't do it for me (although the 225 is quicker round a track than a 225 S3 according to Top Gear mag). On the subject of Top Gear mag, I have a 2001 edition (I think) of the mag and it compares the S3, Focus RS, CTR, BMW 325ti and Leon Cupra...the S3 was saved by the BMW, otherwise overall, it would have been last!

p.s. I also think the R32 should have been on this list!

Similar comments to others:

CTR - too chavvy and poor interior
RS - it's a Ford, nuff said
Leon - not enough advantage to make up for the inferior interior quality
S3 - ticks all the boxes, even if not the absolute best drivers car

Probably could be a decent poll if you dropped the S3 out of the equation. Considering most on this forum own, or aspire to own an S3 its hardly a fair question.

CTR - is generally quicker than an S3. Handles reasonably well and an 8K redline.
RS - probable one of the best and quickest RSs. Standard goodie list is impressive and they mod well.
Leon - poor mans S3? or smart mans S3? Same power, less transmission loss, great brakes, near identical interior. I've had one catching me (std S3) at 140mph+ on the Spanish toll roads.
S3 - I bought one.

S3!

honda's high revving plastic front wheel drive chavvy common breadvan crap

leon will never be a s3, so is always the imitator - plus it's a 5 door, and i see far too many middle aged people driving them

and the focus, very nice, but wouldnt beat the s3 for first place imho

Agreed it looks shocking inside and out.

it looks like a focus with a cheap fibreglass kit and a set of wheels right off halfords wall.

i bought a focus r.s last year .nice car but hard to live with for every day use.wish i bought the s3 i looked at before hand.

One observation I have from comments made in this thread, is that there are a hell of a lot of 'badge snobs' one here who can't see past the image of Audi....and far less people who like to actually drive their car for the pleasure of driving.
I guess Audi loves you all...

Anyone who has driven all of the cars mentioned would rightfully have the S3 LAST in terms of driving pleasure.

I think someone who has had ownership of all 4 cars, or at least driven them can only really answer this question. My Brother in law has type R that he is very pleased with. I have driven it and it is a good car but design wise personally not to my taste. If you then look at price, the Leon is fundamentally the same chassis as the S3 (although not a Quattro) but with different body, saving thousands on new price of S3. And finally if you look at residual value you will find most RS models retain better money, (this gathered from experience). So for this reason the focus RS is the best car. If I spend £20,000 I would be looking for a good return after a few years.

Finally if you post this question on any of the other cars mentioned forum sites they would all probably top the polls

I voted type R, only because of the performance, reliability and how much cheaper they can be bought for compared to an S3.
Sure on atrack the s3 would come last, but then ownership of a car is more than track driving, i realty how many of wither on the roads do more than a couple of trackdays a year, if at all.
But I was suprised by the Type R when I tried one, just how well it does on the road.
So why did I buy an S3, well I thought every eejut in the world would be trying to race you in a type R (I know I do when I see them!! lol). S 3 is a bit more understated............however, compared to my mkiv, whihc gets very little attention from wannabe tokyo drift boys, I have found the s3 seesm to attract a lot people who seem to suddenly speed up once you have overtaken them and want to do 90 all of a sudden instead of the 45 they have been doing for the last 5 miles, (including thought the 30mph areas!).
Never seems to happen as much in the Mk4 for some reason......!??!Must be that damned S badge on the boot!!
Have to say if the poll put the focus st in there, I would vote for that. Available as a icne practical 4 door, lots of toys and you can get a new st3 off the net for what people were spending on a 2.5 year old s3 about 9 months ago..(when the focus came out). And not so many about on the roads as you'd think......? Deffo a good road car the new st and sounds a treat when you drive em!

Smitch, all I can say is good choice. I recently left the Audi club, when I traded my S3 for a 5 dr Focus ST3. Had the car for two months now and love it. The S3 was a lovely car, but the focus has the edge. ST is real drivers car, good handling, brakes, practicallity, cheap. Plus the Brucy Bonus is that oh so lovely noise it makes when your right foot gets itchy. All I can say is if anyone is thinking of changing the ST is well worth a look. I can promise you won't be dissapointed.

So much negativity for the Leon cupra, OK it hasn't got an Audi badge on the front, it doesn't have the interior of an S3 and it doesn't have 4WD, or Quattro as most people on this site would call it.... but it does have 5 doors, and i'd buy one to replace my S3, if I'd needed it as a daily runner for the family! As it stands though, my S3 is a weekend toy, so I can live with 3 doors, you choose your cars for different reasons, driveablility, practicality, performance, price etc. ..... it's nice to have a choice isn't it?!

What should be beared in mind is that:

Civic 16k
Focus 22k
Leon 17k
S3 25K+

The S3's aim is completely different to all the others its a luxury / performance veichle. None of the others are luxury, but ok perform well. For the current value of my car i couldnt replace it with something else of the same spec for that sort of money. Theres nothing out there. I would have to go either A3 quattro sport or new S3 then its more money.

You've got me, I think the Type R is a great driver's car (for front wheel drive) and every time I've challenged one, I've lost! But you're right, IMO Saturday night cruisers and chavs (the list could go on) drive them and I don't want that image. I'd rather be pulling up to McDonalds in my yellow Porsche!

Look at the Evo's on the market, quicker than a Porsche round a track and probably point to point in all weathers but what would you rather have?

S3 for everyday driving.
CTR for track and thrashing canny beat TEK
Not into Focus RS at all
Cupar R last don't really like the look of them.

I've been looking at getting an S3 for aaages, but bought a house a year ago, so slowly saving back up again. Am seriously considering either the Cupra R or Golf Anniversary instead, as could be saving forever for an S3.

Although them damn Anniversarys seem to be too expensive for what they are...

Not too worried about Seat badge or slightly inferior quality, but there does seem to be more problems thrown up on these cars in the seat forum than on Audis. And that they only started at 02 reg too....
