What version of vag-com will i need for a 2002 52 plate s3?

Also what cable will i need? there seems to be loads on ebay but i'm not sure which one i need.

Those are referred to as the "dumb" interfaces sporting a serial to usb connection, manually set baud rates and such, in addition to only work with shareware version of vag com unless you pay Ross-tech $99 for a licence..

I would most certainly go for a hex-usb+can cable, and by this getting the support you might need from ross-tech, you get a much better working interface that will also fit your newer vag's which use a can bus protocol.
Significant amount of money, but definitely worth every penny imo.
