what does the next service entail...?

Just thinking about service time for my car.

It was serviced @ 90,000.

When is the next service due & what does it entail?

Car is an '98 1.8T Sport.

I do trust the car to my local friendly Audi Specialist with regards to servicing/repair work/modifications, etc...

Im just sat here curious, thats all.

I appreciate the link, but... the info is for an S3, not an A3 1.8T Sport (which is the car i have).

What i really wanted to know was... will it be due a service at 100,000miles?

What will need changing at this mileage?

Does the odometer start to flash up INSP when the service is due, or a little before the service is due, or does it depend on how hard the car is driven?

I'm afraid I can't really help out with what if anything is specific to a 100,000 mile service (I'll let you know in about 44,000 miles (about three weeks at current rate!)); but just to clear up the odo thing... It will flash INSP or OIL depending on whether wants a proper service / inspection or just lubrication. It only does this based on time and distance though; not how the car's been driven - there's no real monitoring of that sort on cars with fixed service intervals; of course it's entirely different with later model cars (face-lift time) which are on AVS long-life servicing - the instrument cluster will advise a distance until the next required service based on driving statistics and a reading from a viscosity sensor in the lubrication system.

if your car is at 90k make sure the cambelt and water pump have been changed, aside from that there isnt much too worry about.

It may be worth while changing the plugs and possibly fuel filter and gearbox oil but it depends on your car.

As long as your not being too heavy on the car servicing it every year and changing the oil every few months should be more than sufficient.

Ok. So is my car due a service every 10,000 miles?

Its is vast approaching 97,000.

I'm just trying to prepare myself for the inevitable.

I'm sure the cambelt was changed sometime ago by Audi themselves as part of some warranty work by a previous owner. I forget the milleage now, maybee it was something like 46,000miles (guess).

Plugs were changed at 90,000miles, so was the engine oil.

Infact... at 90,000miles, plugs, engine oil, air filter, colant, pollen filter(?) were all changed by local independant specialist.

Also just before i bought the car the previous owner had changed all of the brakes aswell (new discs/pads allround).

I think maybee the brake fluid could do with changing as i do use the brakes hard from time to time when using some spirited driving.

doh, perhaps i should change the wording. The service schedule items are roughly the same for all petrol A3's (probably other audi's too, but I deliberately omitted sections that were specific to biturbo's and diesels).

I'm maybe incorrectly assuming that your car is not on AVS (longlife) servicing, so therefore is being serviced at a maximum of every 12 months/10k miles already. If this is the case you'll get the standard dashboard service indicators, rather than the "SERVICE DUE IN XXX" or "SERVICE!" indicator.

The list in your handbook (or that faq) should let you know roughly what needs to be done within your current milage, but at 100k miles I would definitely be looking to do the following items IN ADDITION TO the recommended service list:

Cam Belt
Cam Tensioners
Water Pump
Oil Pump/Strainer.
