washing and polishing your paintwork

Washed my new nogaro blue car for the first time today. i hosed it down first before wahing it with warm water with a bit of mer in it, using a new sponge.
I am paranoid about scratching the paint and have convinced myself that i have sort of created small scatches all over the body, like ice scates.

Help!!!

Use a Lambs Wool Wash Mitt ... not a sponge!
