Can someone tell me an what psi or bar is the standard for a 2001 S3?

A friend of mine has an old Escort RS turbo & talks about being able to beat me on 1/4 mile times running at 17psi of boost!

Just wondering how that compares to the standard S3?

Is that the 225 hp version? That one should have 1.1 bar relative pressure (about 16 psi).

Does anyone know what the 210 hp version has? My local dealer said 0.7-1.0 bar (about 10-14.5 psi), which is really not that exact.

I used to have a mint Escort RS Turbo running 16psi , there is no way it would keep up with my 225 S3.
If your mate has just had the Escort chipped he will have a serous amount of turbo lag especially running 17psi. From 1-3500 rpm the power will be very lame, if he has a cam and a flowed head it shouldn’t be that bad. The Escort will have so much torque steer with no traction control the steering will be on opposite lock to keep it in a straight line.
The Escort would be a hell of a lot lighter that the S3 but from my experience the Audi would come out on top

Thanks, very interesting to know what they run at.

Mine is only the 210bhp.
The Escort has had a few things done, but personally Ithink it needs a few more things before he will get close!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Anyone know what pressure a chip will take it to for 270bhp?

Well, mine is a 210 hp Revo-tuned. It should give some 255-265 hp with this. According to Revo the pressure is with my configuration 1.35 bar relative (19.5 psi). With the Revo SPS3 you'll be able to get some 1.5 bar (21.75 psi) and with that one could imagine something like 270 hp. This power is probably close to the max that can be achived with only chipping, exhaust (and / or other mods) need to be improved to gain more.

These are then just my toughts, if someone has better info please comment!

Thanks, it just gives me some comeback quotes when Mr RST starts on about how good a Ford is???? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh_roll.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh_roll.gif

I need to practise my 1/4 mile starts though, as I only managed to get 15.2 at the weekend.
One excuse I have is that mine is such a heavy beast at 1,485kg - all those toys seem to add up a bit!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Still beat the 306 GTi-6 by 0.5sec weighing in at approx 300kg less!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

If the RST can keep up I think it might go

I run 1.65/1.67 bar peak - somewhere around there for a genuine 270 + BHP / 300+ lb-ft
In 'silly' mode it's up to 1.80 bar peak giving 275 BHP and 332 lb-ft.

But at these boost pressures using a standard turbo the inlet air temperature after the intercoolers, goes through the roof! The standard ICs can't cope...beware!

I thought APR was 1.5bar how do you manage to get the extra, mbc?

Is silly mode the N75j?

Glen - why don't you fit one of these:
Autospeed Intercooler Spray Kit

I have one on order and I have arranged a discount on what you order. All you have to do is put in the comments at the end of the order process that you are from www.s2forum.com Everyone will get 10% off the parts (not shipping) and if you order more than one kit you will get more of a discount.

Then you can get rid of that nasty N75 and get a proper full custom map - mapped on the road - Mihnea from Belgium (the guy who does all the S2s) will be doing mine soon.

..and I was told it was 1.4 bar. Either way I don't know why my car makes more boost than it should...but it does. We think it must be down to the Milltek cats...but are not 100% sure.

Bingo.
But I can't run that sort of boost on cold days with cold, dense air, at I keep hitting soft limp mode...haven't found a way round it yet - havent looked too hard either mind!

Also, I can't believe that over 1.8 bar is good for the turbo!

I don't think I need one now Doug...I have a plethora of uprated intercoolers (well 2 anyway!) and the inlet temperatures are fridge like in temperature regardless of outside air temperature / boost.

But it does look good though...hmm!

I have only played with the N75...I don't normally run it.
As for the re-map solution...watch this space...I have plans!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

What practice is needed in the S3? I thought it was just max throttle and drop the clutch...obviously with the traction control off, and away you go......am I wrong?

It seems you may need to watch out for A3's until ypou perfect your runs /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Gambba, if I floor it and drop the clutch I just might as well order new tires as well. A chipped S3 just puts out so much torque that even four wheel drive can't cope with it resulting in a massive wheel spin. Okay, this looks quite stunning but is not really the fastest launch /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

One question... have you seen Dan take the Grey beast over 4,000 rpm???

He never seeems to what to get a proper performance out of the car!!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

You want to be running yours on Tarmac instead of Finnish Ice! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/lol.gif

I still think that it would give you a dam better time than 15.2, I mean hell I can get a 15.29 in my A3T, and trust me I know what torque is! From what S3 drivers tell me this seems to be the best method, and I doubt very much that the S3 manages to spin all 4 wheels for that long as powerful as you may think the car is. Expect some wheelspin otherwise you aint doing it right.

Good to speak to you too m8 /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beerchug.gif

ROFLOL, true i know Dan's not one to go about thrashing his car, i think he respects it a hell of a lot.

Give it to me and i could show him the true speed of his car but dont hold me responsible for the pile of bits that will need replacing when i have shown him /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh_roll.gif Got to remember is Dan's is a high mileage car.

Me on the other hand i have wrung the RST's neck and i get every little drop of performance out of it and it's a very suprising car. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Its done well @ Santa Pod and also did well at a recent track day so its not just about straight line speed. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

talking of Finnish....... that brings back memories.
Terve Dolm!
Mita Kuulu?

Hyyvaa joloua!

was nice spinning on the ice in Keuruu and Hameliinna (both with car and snowscooter).
/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beerchug.gif

Gambba: Actually I know and agree with you, just couldn't resist the small flame /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif. I actually did get wheelspin on dry tarmac with my summer set of tires, although what I left out is that those tires are, no were, really sh*tty regarding grip. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif I have actually better traction on dry tarmac with my studded winter tires than with those old rubbers. Sorry and really no offense mate!/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/angel.gif I'll have new, proper tires installed for next summer, so then I'll get some real experience.

JayBee: Terve vaan ja kiitos samoin!

It has to be said that the S3 / quattro combination is buckets of fun on snow or ice, just keep it controlled in traffic!

Just busy working!!

You can get a quick RST, but you will have to spend a fortune to match the S3 on sytle & luxuries... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

All those toys just add to the fun /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

How long do they tend to last these highly modded RS Turbos, the ones i see flying about are always accompanied by a cloud of blue smoke /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile_smoking.gif !

I had some guy have a pop at my old VR6 Highline in his RST, Very quick car and he kept up till about 100, got to the set of lights and he told me it was 200BHP and did 0 - 100 in 13 Secs, Well my VR6 doesn't and i thrashed him of the lights !

I have had mine running 220 bhp for over 2 yrs now and done 18K miles on it. The car itself has now done 99K miles and no blue smoke, so i would say its lasting very very well considering it running double the power it left the factory with /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue_out.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/groovy.gif

Never underestimate an escort RS Turbo!!, there are some quick ones out there, my last one was so quick it would [censored] all over my 280 bhp Audi S3 I have now

interesting discussion,my s3(210) runs 1 bar boost, put out 268bhp and 263lb/t on amd rollers. If we are talking a straight line contest between a rst and a s3,the s3 is alot heavier suffers greater transmission losses but has beter traction,a typical time at santa pod is in the 14's.My old mr2 turbo was light, had low trans losses and good traction in the dry and consistently ran mid 13's at pod.I think it would have to be a well modded and driven rst to keep up with a modded s3.

hi new to this site and of course audi as a car in general. just bought an S3 http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/637426.htm a couple of weeks ago. interesting topic i've stumbled across here as i also own an ERST.

got to put my 2pence worth in here. my RS is running 215bhp with 236lb torque and it is very quick and lots of fun to drive.

however the S3 does definately have the edge and more importantly can cope with the thrashings it may sometimes get with a lot more reliabilaty!

my RS i use during the spring and summer months, mainly through the show season and i have to admit, maintaining it can cost the earth at times.

for the thrill and the raw feeling of power the RS wins every time

for reliability, comfort and power when its needed the S3 anytime!

Thanks :)
