Does the S3's alarm/immobiliser give it any Thatcham rating?

Searching for insurance and the cheapest one is subject to to the vehicle being fitted with a Thatcham level 1 or 2 security device.

Anyone have any ideas on how much a thatcham 2 device would cost to get fitted? The quote is only around £80 cheaper so doubt its worth getting one fitted.

Also what is thatcham 2? I remember having a thatcham 1 fitted to an old car which was an alarm and immobiliser. Is thatcham 2 just an immobiliser?

Thatcham Cat 2 is Imobiliser.

Adrian Flux count the factory fitted S3 alarm/immobiliser as Cat 2 if that helps. Insurance companies have a list of alarms and there thatcham ratings when i got my policy I just got Adrian Flux to check if it was Cat 2. Best idea is to speak to the company and check they have it listed as Cat 2

The standard system is Thatcham Cat 2.

Hope this helps.

AFAIK all mass produced manufacturer's cars built after 1998 has to have a CAT2 imobiliser(usually in the form of a key transponder) fitted as standard.
