help. allen key dropped down front of s3 dash!

changing my tax disc over today and i dropped the allen key and it slipped down a gap at the very front left hand side of the dash. when i drive i hear it moving around just in the corner now..

anyone else had this or anyone know of an easy way of getting it out without having to strip the dash.... which i will do if thats the only option

    cheers in advance

glad to hear im not the only one. Got mine out with a magnet (very small one) on the end of some string.

Try fishiing line and attach it to the type of magnet you get on the back of fridge magnets....

took me about an hour though.

If that fails.... throw a brick through your window. 50 windscreen excess and you can get it when they take the window out!

hmm so its not gonna be any good taking the dash apart atall?

so i just need a flatish magnet and attach it so some thin string or fishing wire (how do you attach??)

then did you just poke it down?

i wondered about putting it down the driving round the block and hoping it slides into the magnet or something??

Just drop your glovebox. Pop the side trim off, remove the 4 torx screws which bolt the glovebox in from the side, open the glovebox and you'll see a further 3 similar bolts and it just lowers down. Honestly takes 5 mins and goes back really easy. I bet the key just drops out as you can get right up behind and under the dash.

ok so removing the glove box did nothing as there is so much other crap under there you cant ge any closer.

but... i found a HUGE magnet... moved it over the dash and i heard it move... so i dragged it around a bit more and believe it or not it came out the heater vent that blows at the pass window. Problem solved.

not sure in actual physics how powerfull it was but its about 5" across and about 1" thick. needs a damn good tug to pull it off metal when its attached. It did a good job of attracting the allen key!
