Oil Change at Kwik-Fit

Has anyone had an oil change from Kwik-fit before?

I went to one yesterday to get the oil and filter changed, they said they couldn't get me a filter so i got my own and took the car back. They told me that they used Mobil 1 0-40 but they were busy at the time so to come back, i did that twice but they were always busy.

After that i thought i would try a different Kwik-fit. This Kwik-fit said they could do it but they only did the Mobil 1 5-40 semi-syntehtic. I explained that i only wanted to have 0-40 in so after they went to check which oil should be used they came back and said it was an Audi specialist oil so therefore couldn't do it.

So basically wondering if anyone has had there oil changed at Kwik-fit before i waste my time going back?? What oil did they use? Only reason why i'm getting it done there is that its £36 which i couldn't even buy the oil for - and i'm assuming they can't mess up an oil change!!

James......i read this in shock .....i would rather have my little girl have a go at changing my oil than leaving my car in one of these numpty outfits........do it yourself out or take to dealer they wont charge you that much and you get your service book stamped

Agreed. There is no way on earth I would let Kwik Fit touch my motor. Saying that, I don't even like the main dealer touching my motor. Maybe I'm picky.

GSF can supply Synta Gold 0-40 (The dealer oil), a filter AND a new sump plug for £30.

I did it myself only two weeks ago so the price is current....

If one Kwik-Fit says they only do 5w-40 semi, yet another claims to use 0w-40 fully and do a full change and filter with labour for less than you could even buy the oil for... makes me think something is amiss (or maybe i'm just sceptical).

Either stump up the extra bunce to get it done by a real garage or be brave and do it yourself the one thing you could break if you did it yourself is stripping the thread on the sump when fitting a new sump plug, but that's easy enough to avoid.

OMG!!! Please don't take it to KwikFit, because when they f*<k it up it will only end up going to some poor sod like me to retify their faults.
Do they have the capabilities to reset the service indicators?, would they run a diagnostic?
Look after your car and it will look after you.
Bring it down to the workshop and I will show you how to do a simple oil change.

james take it to hi performance in sunderland where i got mine done, there good lads been going there for a few years now for little pointless jobs like an oil change on all my cars, the only charge a tenner and you can watch and have a good poke around under ya car whilst they do it.
ps; i supplied the oil and filter.

Use Mobil1 0-40. This is VW503.01 spec which you need for the S3.

If your not confident in doing this yourself, buy the oil from halfords (£35 approx - you'l need to get the 1x4l and 1x1l as 4l is not enough) and get the filter from Audi. Then take it to a garage for them to do..

Remember you can't use any old oil in the S3. It has to be to spec.

Do they have the capabilities to reset the service indicators?

On mine (fixed service interval) it tells you how to reset the service indicator in the hand book. Not sure about variable service cars.

FWIW, the last time I went to Kwik Fit (for tyres on my old car, and only because they were the only tyre centre open on a Sunday and I had a bad puncture) they tried to jack my car on the plastic sill covers until I shouted at them. They also didn't bother balancing the wheels. I wouldn't trust them to fit a magic tree let alone do an oil change.

I think i'll get some Mobil 1 oil from here Here and probably do it myself at the weekend, or maby take it to high performance, see how i feel.

I dont need the service indicator resetting as its just an inbetween service oil change, keep her nice and fresh.

p.s how many litres from empty to full on the S3?

From memory the sump holds 4.5 litres. So you have to buy a 4 litre and a 1 litre of Mobil 1.

If you are not on variable servicing and changing the oil frequently, any fully synthetic will do - 5 litres of Synta Gold is quite a bit cheaper than 4 litres of Mobil 1.

If you're going to run an S3, you have to accept it is not a cheap car to run. There is no point dicking around trying to save a quid here and a quid there. Who do you trust to take care of your car? Once you've answered that question, the rest is easy.

Yep - Good point!

If the car is on variable servicing, use VW503.01 spec oil like Mobil1 0-40.

If it isn't then Synta will be ok.

Although personally I would use Mobil1 anyway and be done with it!

I used to have a 206gti with the Grand Tourisme kit on (the one with the bigger front and rear bumpers) I needed a new exhaust and they fitted a standard 206 back box instead of the longer one and my bumper melted!!

So they offered me one of those sticky exhaust surrounds like you get on them MG's to cover it up!

the day i was driving to Europe and in an emergency i had to get a wheel bearing done at kwik fit and in fact had both fronts done at the same time - i supplied the parts and they fitted them for £80... and did actually a very good job - maybe i was lucky.. after it was done and i was back from abroad i checked with Audi and it was over £300 for that job....
