Guys,

Had my wheels on the S3 aligned today.
It took the dealer from 8 in the morning until 11, so about 3 hours!!!! and i have been watching at it all the time.
They (2 mechanics) were using computer controlled laser guided equipment to align the wheels just right.
However 3 hours looks a bit much...... had something to do with the car being Quattro and S.... anyway only had to pay 85 euro...
how long does it normally take to align the wheels?
and another question, is it true that the camber can hardly be adjusted in an S3?

They would have used the correct Biesbarth (sp?) alignment gear...good stuff!

3 hours does seem a bit long...but at only 85 euros, it's a bargain!

I had my Golf done on the same kit on Monday...it took about 1 1/2 hours fronm start tyo finish...the setting up is the longest part it seems...I paid about £80.00 GBP for my alignment as a VAG specialist.

There's not much you can adjust on the S3 as standard...but it's good to know that it's all within spec.

Officially, the camber can't be adjusted...the facility to adjust the camber by swinging the hub in relation to the strut like on a Mk3 Golf for example, just doesn't exist. However, it's common practice to loosen the lower balljoints and utilise the limited in - out adjustment available on them to adjust the camber somewhat...although this adjustment is very limited.

You can get maybe 1/2 a degree of adjustment if you are lucky, using this method....but it can be enough to add a bit more front end bite if you add as much is available and get aggresive with the toe setting too!

Anyway...good to see you got it all set up so cheaply!
