Turbo Sizes???

Hi,

I managed to get hold of a Brand new standard K03 Turbo for my 1997 A3 1.8T, because it was cheap as chips and mine feels like its on the way out. I Then bought a brand new K04 turbo off ebay for a good price. Now got two Turbo's and guess what, the K04 is a bit smaller than the K03? Is that the way it should be?
It has an Audi code on the K04 so its a genuine one.

Anyone got any ideas on why its smaller!??!???

What sort of labour and parts prices would I be looking at for the conversion of putting the K04 on???

the k04 appears small with its large exducer but it should be bigger than the k04 as you say.. they are a direct swap so would cost just as much to swap in as the standard turbo.

If it's a 1.8t quattro you have then you might only need an S3 TIP.

Mines a FWD, The K04 is going on next week! - Can't wait!
I've heard that you should remap and get a larger intercooler???
Ie, if you don't it could run lean? Is this right?

If you want to run a different turbo to your existing one, then you will need a remap, and you will benefit from a larger intercooler if you are running a big turbo. Just changing the turbo to a bigger wont work.
