Dash problem

I have a 1997 A3 1.8T and the dash is having problems now and then.
The display screen for "petrol warning light" and the trip computer bits doesnt always show the whole numbers or image. Its like there are whole lines of pixels missing or something!
Has anyone had this problem before?

From what I've read this is a fairly common occurance. Mine does it a little, it's worse when it's hot. I don't think there is any fix for it except to replace the whole instrument cluster.

yep, this is a common issue, I think audi will replace under warranty but if its not its a new dash completely

Hi, there is info available on this try here http://www.audi-sport.net/vb/showthread.php?t=29577 I think it is expensive to fix from Audi but other companies can fix at about £200 or there is a DIY option.

i did try this following the instructions in the other thread. removed the clocks, and dismntled them easily enough. tried to stick a bit of insulating tape in to put pressure down onto the ribbon, but had absolutely no effect. worth a stab i suppose.
