Smile Final mod for the A3? (We'll see) Facelift seats fitted (Possibly Recaro?)

Fitted these about a week ago now, but only just taken some pics.

The plan was to get them re-trimmed in leather and alcantara, but as I'm thinking of getting an S3, they will stay as they are. Look much better then the original checked interior anyway IMO.

Can't complain for 150 Inc the rear seats.

So much more comfy and supportive compared to the old checked interior. Should of done this mod a lot earlier! Had to put up with the old interior for 2 and half years LOL

I also swaped the black / grey bases over from my old seats

The new seats had different connectors on. So I had solder them on to the existing wiring. Now the airbags are in and working

Looks miles better, what an improvement!

What was Audi thinking with those patterns. The old seat designer was obviously a 'Tron' fan

Good grief those seats are even worse with grey/red check than with my black/grey!

Did you swap the door cards too?

Surely those seats aren't actually made by Recaro?

Yeah the old ones were fairly shocking LOL

No didn't swap the door cards as they work well with the originals IMO

Yeah they are made by Recaro. Have a look at the seats in the latter MK4 Golfs they have the Recaro logos.

Precisely, i thought Recaro were one of those 'we don't make parts for anyone else' companies. Therefore all Recaro seats have the name stitched in the same place, so if it ain't there they ain't Recaro's?

I like the 1.8T badge as it's off the back of the car.

If you do a search you will find some pics of the fitting of the boost gauge by me and HTC.

    Cheers for the comments.

Here is a picture of the seats in a MK4 Golf apparently Audi don't pay or allow the logos to be put onto their seats

Recaro seats are OE spec or an option on nearly every model in the VAG range.

If Audi don't allow the labels how do you explain the S3 Recaro's?

I don't think those seats are made by Recaro, they look similar to the mkIV golf one's but that doesn't mean they are the same.

Not that fussed, just wanted to know if they are genuine Recaro or not as if they are they'd be worth more than 150 and i'm stumped as to why they aren't stitched with the name

I think the S3 / S4 / RS4 or an exception as they are aimed to be a performance car. That's why they display the Recaro name.

I've compared my seats to the ones in the MK4 Golf and there is no difference in the seats. They are exactly the same even down to the stitching, air bags and release handles.

I think they went cheap on Ebay as they were advertised specifically for the A3 and the advert didn't mention Recaro, as it's not stitched into the seats.

Yeah I'm pretty sure that they are Recaro's, but I'll probably be proven wrong now As you say they are damn comfy and supportive.

To shed more light or confusion on the seats, those Recaro badged ones from the golf Turbo were standard until 2001. After that, the seats changed to VW sports seats which were v.similar but not branded and defo not recaro. The top of the seats where the headrest sits did not have the built up shoulders like the earlier Recaros and the side supports were smaller.

TBH - Markb's look exactly like the Recaro shape so im sure they are probably made by Recaro but as everything its all in the label

Look much better, though I like the originals too.

i've just fitted s3 recaro seats in my A3 and had the same old seats as Mark.

The plug and fitting are the same, as well as the location and size of the lumbar adjust button. I am 100% convinced the old seats are made by recaro. I think they only brand the electric version so people pay more money for it.

My older seats were jsut as comfortable (if not more so) but I went for style over comfort!

Mark, interior is looking good. The chequered pattern was only available on sport models i believe.

LOL. One of the reasons for changing the interior was to make it easier to sell (As the checked interior looked naff IMO).

Just doing a few bits and bobs to the car ready to sell it now (Got the interior lights working again today after being without them for a year LOL)

    Hi Mark,
I have the same seats and i want to fit them to my 98 A3, Could you clarify the Connections?

On my old seats i have a brown cable and two smaller cables (Yellow/Blue + Yellow/Brown), On the newer seats i have a Brown, Red/White and 3 smaller cables White, brown, green.

Looking at your Photos it looks like

    Car Loom seat
    Larger Brown to small brown
    Yellow/Blue to Green
    Yellow/Brown to White

    Thanks Steve

I would love to help, but I didn't write down the colour combo's, as I think they are different on both sides?

I just examined the plugs which have small numbers corresponding to the wires (I.E 1 -3) then just joined the corresponding wires from the new and old plugs.

    Thanks Mark.

    Hi Mark,
Thanks anyway,I found the connections in ElsaWin and as you say, Its a case of matching connector numbers, Cleared the Fault codes with VagCom after a bit of soldering and Job Done. What a difference they make, so much more support.

    Regards Steve
