Trolley Jacks and Axle Stands

Where do people jack from and then position their axle stands at the front and rear of their A3's?

I normally use the jack that comes with the car as it's stable (and can't slip) then slide the axel stands under the outer (big) bolts at the rear of the front subframe. Haven't really needed to play with the rear.
