I like the black grill, just keep the rings though, maybe black rings would look good too?

I've got the Sportec one from AmD. To be honest it was a complete rip-off for the trim and the rings, but I like the effect.

grill out is a bumper off job if i am not mistaken.

not keen on the rings being black, but the de-cromed grill looks good.

Very colour dependant though, I dont think it would work on my Black S3 for example.

Anyone got a picture of it done on a black S3 or maybe someone with photoshop could edit this pic?...

You can't buy just the chrome surround by it self, but a new grille from the stealership is less then £80! I think this mod is getting done this weekend!

If Its just coated abs plastic then the crome finish polishes off with T-cut and a bit of elbow grease to give a loverly saturn finish.

If you don't like it though your then phucked. I think i'll try painting mine and then if it looks poo, ill just polish the paint off.

It's not a bumper off job, just unclip the surround and it pops out. It looks like it may need to be painted as it's not just chrome coated!

i was thinking of doing something like that with my new front bumper, but insted of putting the grill back in,iwas just going to mesh it, with the same mesh that is going where the fog lights go and the middle section, so does the chrome outer come off or do i have to buy one and spray it or does it come in black

wow that looks good. have to give that a go on my new car

So is the general consensus to take the crome trim off and spray it?

Oh and as a side point... is that car on 19's? and i guess its lowered?? looks amazing!!

Can you buy a grill with the RS4 style mesh in it? Or has anyone done it themsleves? That with a black surround would look nice.

Is this a real one because it has stright slats behind the Audi badge?

my brother blacked the grille surround on his A3 T sport with black insulating tape. Sounds wrong but worked for years and looked factory. Give it a try for a £1 and 5mins. If you like it you could always buy a black surround later.

Job done! The surround just picks off relatively easily. Rubbed it down, de-greased it, and simply painted it with halfords saturn black. Looks awesome on Imola, all for a tenner!

No i've not got any pics. It just looks like the other Imola one in the thread. I didn't lacquer it either as I wasn't sure if it would look right and wanted to be able to get it off again if it looks pants. Maybe I'll lacquer it now though as im sold.

Saw an early V reg noggy S6 with a black surround as well, was it standard on them? Looks very M3 CSL on grey though!

slightly off-topic but that grey S3 at the start has a black grille and lower grille, mines faded and looks very light grey, whats the best way to get it black again? I can then have a go at making the surround black too...
