Looks like my arm rest has packed in.
Release mechanism is not working properly.
    Any suggestions on fixing it?

How much is a new one?
or should i go and sit down first?

    Definately try to fix it...

I've seen a few posts in this forum about repairing/upgrading the various pitiful mechanisms in the armrest; a quick search will probably yield plenty of useful info... I'm sure there was a thread in the last month or two about such a task?

Also, Definetely sit down for the replacement price... A dealer will charge the earth, www.vagparts.com are a bit cheaper - usually between 170 and 200 for the whole shooting-match depending on the upholstery - but of course you probably don't need the whole lot...

    Regards,

    Rob.

the only bit i managed to get off was the cover around the bottom bit.
i had a look for screws inside. Are they well hidden or something?

    4 flocked screws were hidden!!!

All done now. i used a 95mm long 4mm diameter steel rod
Drilled right through button and a dot of super glue for good measure on inside.

Just need to tighten nut under handbrake that is loose and causes rattle.
(was being a bit rough last night)

I'm a happy bunny now. Job took 30 mins to do using metal bar route.

    Thanks again to NeilS3.
