i was thinking of buying an audi s3 cat d, and just wanted to know what the resale values r on a cat d s3 are like and would the insurance be different.

resale? I wouldn't touch it. It would have to be a real bargain, like %50 of the going rate to attract buyers.

I ran a mile when i was looking for to by my S3 a month ago. Found a cracker, HPI'd came back a CAT D. You just don't know what your buying, if your selling it will be even worse. Has to be dirt cheap to make sense IMO.

It's not whether it's been in an accident, it's whether it's been written off by an insurance company. Obviously they'll know as soon as you register it (presuming Cat D has to be re-registered with a Q number plate?). Either way it has to be close to half price otherwise walk away.

Cars are written off for a reason - ie it would cost more to fix than to replace. If someone has fixed it, then surely they've done it themselves so as to make it economical. That may be OK if they are qualified, or it could have been done by cowboys.
Personally I would not buy a car that had been previously written off. I would save up and buy one with a nice history or just get a different car.

i am not that familar with the materials used on the panels, but the car was repaired at an audi workshop and he has all the receipts to show. so this car has been replaced with all orginal audi parts (as stated on receipt) not cheap parts.
What's the age, mileage and extent of repairs?
How much do you think you could pick it up for?
It'd be worth speaking to Audi UK and finding out the cars position in terms of anti-corrosion warranty etc.
If it's cheap as chips and passes a full independant inspection and you plan to hang on to it then it could be an utter bargain. Just be aware that you may find it difficult to sell.

sounds like you've pretty much talked yourself into it anyway. What are they asking for the car?

S3 Nah the best thing to do if you want it is to ring the dealer that did the repair and ask the guys there if they would buy it, then get a quote on the car and you'll see how much extra the running cost are. Against all the comments here if the repair has been done to a high standard the car could be "as used" (not new). It is always risky buying a Cat D, it is unlikely somebody really got a dealer involved as the costs would be high but if they did it should come with some sort of cover should they have missed something. However if you think you'll have no problems selling the car on, just read the comments above - you are in the minority buying a specialist car with that kind of history. Best value in the long term is buy the car with the best history, care for it and get it serviced. The cost of the car is not what you pay for it in the first place but the diffence between what you buy it for what you sell it for and all the costs in between! PS for what it's worth I wouldn't!
its a 51 plate, 7,000 miles on the clock, i was thinking i could pick it up for £8,000, has a full audi report from when it was repaired

Would have to be a damn sight cheaper than 8 grand for me to buy it - you can pick up a spotless one for £11k ish.
Plus, it is very rare for a CatD car to ever drive perfectly, just think at market value thats like £6k of repairs - a bit more than a slight shunt. 7,000 miles on the clock=obviously a new clock.

It seems S3NAH you're trying to talk yourself into it mate. It's obviously your choice, but on an enthusiasts site like this all the advice is really gonna be to steer clear of this sort of car.
