which engine oil?

hi, i got the engine oil icon come up on my dis but i dont know which engine oil was put into the car when it was last serviced. i managed to get a good deal on a bottle of castrol slx long life 2 with the 0w-30.

the s3 handbook says you can use vw503 00 and vw 503 01 but the oil bottles says it is good only for vw 503 00. will using this oil be ok for a top up till my next fixed service in 2 months?

I use Mobil One, available easily from Halfords.

That light should be renamed from "oil warning light" to "You have no oil whatsoever and its about to break - light"....

Agree. If all you have is vw503 00 then put a small amount in and go out and get some 503 01. Don't wait until the service.

Pull the dipstick out see if you can see any oil on it, I think it is best to put the oil in before the engine starts rattling

thanks guys, decided to stop by halfords and get the castrol edge which i think is the renamed sl1.
