    s3 brembo help

Hi guys. I was wondering if the Brembo calipers off a cupra R would fit my s3?
what would i need, and would I have to change my discs?
any help would be much appreciated.
    thanks

Yes they will fit. You will need the caliper mounting brackets as well. The disc size would be 323x28mm. Whereas your S3 ones are 312x23mm. If you buy all the stuff new then its not worth it but 2nd hand it is. The discs are about 96+vat each from the Seat dealer and you should get 10% off that price. i suggest you fit braided brake hoses all round and renew the fluid with some DOT 5.1 ( make sure its not synthetic)

You will also need to make sure your wheels have enough clearance for the calipers. Standard 17" Avus alloys are good, optional 18" RSTT's need spacers.

They come up on eBay every few months. I got my set of nearly new calipers, carriers, hoses, pads and discs as the Brembo Junior GT kit for 400.

Yes, definitely worth it. I scared myself a few too many times after the rechip - but the Brembo setup inspires a lot more confidence.

Iv'e done exactly this set up from the Cupra R, much better than standard!!

Just need some braided hoses now....

If you have 18in RSTT's then you will need at least 5mm spacers just as JoJo says as the wheels wont fit on cause the calipers are so big!

I guess that it's the back of the spokes that cause the problem, not the diameter of the wheel, hence the need to space the wheel away from the caliper.
On a similar note... Anyone running 18" Seat Cupra R alloys on their S3?

It's because on genuine 18in RSTT's the "dish" of the wheel is too much.

The centre of the wheel is recessed which makes contact with the large caliper.

The standard 17in wheels dont have any dish they are flat, hence no spacers!

oh i see your point pretty simple i didnt think the RSTT's wheels were that dished, but i did see some the otherday come to think of it & thought exactly that.

    Nah just for the front.

Try Veedubs in Gateshead, its a specialist VAG breakers where i got mine from. They are very helpful, just forget the telephone number but a google search will find it!

The original rest of Europe S3 had the brembo brakes fitted as standard (at least in the brochure anyway) so that is probably why they work with the 17" Avus

I'm sure they never did as none of the brochures have pics of them in and they would not just leave this as a Europe option and not supply them to the UK where I'm sure the next highest sales figures would be!!

Darko you need the Brembo calipers and caliper carriers, 323mm x 28mm discs and pads to fit the calipers. You will also need 2 x cupra r brake hoses as the standard S3 hoses are not long enough to fit. Last but not least 5mm spacers (minimum) if you have 18in RSTT wheels.

It will be best to find a car breaking which I did and got everything in (inc new discs and pads for 500) as if you buy the bits from Seat it will be close to 1000 which is more than the aftermarket Brembo GT kit!

Sorry my mistake, just had a look at the brocure and no Brembos. I think I was getting confused with a road test that Autocar carried out comparing the S3 to the Golf 4 motion. They said that the test car had Brembos but these were not coming to the UK (the test car had a cloth interior also). I don't have it any more otherwise I could have scanned it in

is 250 a good price for a set. if this is just for the brembos, how much would i expect to pay for the carriers?

Don't forget to price the disks in, these are around 90 + vat each for the solid items from Seat, or 350 + vat!! for the genuine Brembo drilled items.
Pads are not cheap either, well over 100 + vat for the Seat Cupra items or around 90 + vat? for aftermarket items, like ferodo or green/red stuff.
Best to source the complete package imo, with all the things you need including braided hoses. I paid 750+vat for my Brembo GT junior kit, fitted at AmD, but this was a groupbuy price from a few years ago.
