Checked my S3 on VAG COM and it reported a problem with the N249 valve - open circuit. I purchased the valve without checking the original one (couldn't find the time) so when I came to fit the new to my surprise discovered the electrical connection hidden behind a metal plate - not connected to anything.

I have now plugged it in withour fitting the new valve as it was raining and it doesn't seem to run any different. Could anyone tell me what the valve does and what the electrical connector does.

Thanks
Matt

I had a fault code with the 249 too. Mine was "mechanical malfunction".
PaulS3 said something about making sure the electrical connection was connected.
It's the vacuum solenoid that controls the recirc valve.

Chris.

yep n249 controls the diverter valve.

the valve is told by the ecu, via the plug, when to send vacuum or boost to the diverter valve to open or close it.
