A3 Alarm

A colleague of mine has an A3 (T reg). The alarm seems to go off for no reason, both when he's driving, and when it's locked and parked in the car park. Note, the alarm only sounds - the indicators don't flash.

He just took it to the local dealer, who said it would need to be booked in, as the alarm unit seems to be faulty - but they can't accomodate him at the moment.

We've looked in the manual for a fuse, to turn the thing off, but can't find anything suitable.

Can anyone help?

A couple of suggestions:

Always lock it with the key incase the fault lies with the remote locking.

Has he tried deactivting the interior alarm, there is a button towards the base of the pillar to the rear of the drivers door. Little grey button you push and hold until red led in door pins flash then lock the car.
