well the S3 has gone, stripped of its parts, and on the drive sits an new A4 tdi, thanks for all of your advice and tips during my ownership, i shall still be reading the posts in this section and hope my input may help others, i have some parts for sale which will be on the trading post soon....i must admit the market for a good S3 seems to be very flat at the moment something i didn't expect when i bought the car, happy modding.
