open to suggestions other than the crap standard

If your running high bhp figures then yes its worth uprating the clutch, if not then OEM is usually fine. Maybe not in your case as you have said its crap.

If you get in touch with Nav at www.priracing.com he can get an excellent clutch and flywheel for you.

what makes you say it's crap? Just curious as you seem hell-bent against getting another OEM clutch.

I bought the car for my wife new so I know it has been driven properly. When it was about 2 years old I noticed the clutch seemed to slip when dropping a gear and accellerating hard but only in high gears. Took it to the dealer and they checked it out saying there was nothing wrong.
It's now 4 years old and I recently had it remapped and this has highlighted the problem. No slipping in the lower gears but if in a high gear driving at low revs and then accellerated hard the clutch slips then locks in and drives fine.
I know the OEM clutch will not handle the extra boost but I think it is not up to the job even when the car is standard. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I have to say i get the same on mine. Its only ever happened twice, and both where when changing from 4th to 5th from the redline.

Because it's not happened since, I put it down to the fact that most of my miles were city miles, and that the permanent stop start may have glazed the facings a little (don't even know if this is possble?) - because after a good hard drive, it doesnt do it. If it was the clutch on the way out, i'd expect it to slip when launching from 3-4krpm drops, which it doesnt.

My car is a 1999 model and I'm still using the original clutch. Remapped since December 2003.
