Anyone replaced hydraulic lifters?

Need to replace mine as one or more is gunked-up - hence 'ticking' on start-up. Just wondered how hard/easy it is, and if there are any cheats to do the job faster?

i take it you have tried an engine flush 1st of all to see if that helps. I cant imagine it will be an easy job. I did it on my old 318 BMW and theres a lot to come off, basically you will need to remove everything to get the two camshafts out to get to the buckets

I've done it ona MK2 Golf petrol, and on that it's only slightly more work than a cambelt swap. However, the cambelt swap on a TDi is harder than a Mk2 Golf.
