Hello guys,

Got the pain in the **** P0172 code and tbh it's driving me mad...

Car is an a3 2001 1.8T AUM with 63,000 miles and is standard atm.

Car has thrown a bank 1 too rich code at me.

There are no driving problems with the car that I know of , it just idles badly.

The car seems to hate a cold engine on start up and idles about 1100-1200rpm for about 30 seconds and then goes back to the normal idle at about 700rpm.

Her idle then fluctuates about 100rpm constantly.

I have attached a couple of videos (I hope it's worked)

Things I have done - New Bosch mass air flow sensor , new oem diverter valve , checked for vac leaks and non present that me or the mechanic can see , Forte specialist fuel injector cleaner , new engine temp sensor .

Im no mechanic but I'm leaning towards a new lambda sensor or fuel pressure regulator.

Just wondering if anyone else had any other ideas at all ?

Btw I don't listen to Beyoncé , in the video it just had to come on the radio at the same time of recording...

Fuel pressure regulator was clean as a whistle , got some live data from my cheap d900 scanner which I don't know if these mean anything to you guys ?

Calc load--1.56%
Coolant temp--98 degrees
Stft b1 was ranging between 14-18%
Ltft b1--3.12%
Spark adv--18.5btcd
I.A.T--53.0C
M.A.F--1.96
TPS--2.35
air status--OFF
O2SL--11 12
O2S 12--0.635V
SHRTFT12--99.21%
OBDSUP--EOBD

this data was taken at idle after a 25mile drive.

Thanks for the help.

Air leak by the looks of that... short term trims are high but long term trims are just over 3%

I'd be checking the pipes under the inlet manifold... smoke test will reveal any leaks if you can get one done... obvious signs of leaks is wet oil residue... engines get dirty over time... if there is oil on the outside the its leaked out of hose or seal...

Been trying to find someone with a smoke test for months without driving a good few hours away , smoke test is the only way I think as I've looked for hours for leaks . I think the car may have had a map by a mobile mechanic (maybe done a rubbish job) would that effect it ?

I thought you said your car was standard?...

I bad map on a wideband car doesn't normally create these symptoms and as I said your short term trims suggests a split pipe as does the bad idle...

I meant the car was standard to my knowledge , it might not of been mapped but there was a sticker on my engine bay from a mobile mechanic who also does 'tuning maps'. He might of even just changed a battery or something I don't know.

Anyone you know do smoke tests ?

The only people i know are rtech but that's a 4 hour round trip for me.

I'm in the surrey/hampshire/London area.

I do appreciate your help btw.

Pcv split caused this on my car, get it smoke tested before you keep throwing new parts in

So last night I got the car smoke tested and there are no leaks apart from a bit of smoke coming from the bottom of the dipstick which I was told to replace ASAP. Part comes Monday but would that cause my bank 1 fuel trim to be at that level ?

Any other suggestions at all ?

Have you checked the FPR/fuel rail as per the link I posted in post #2?

Yes checked that and was clean as a whistle , the vacuum hose to the fpr was a bit soft and caving in so it's been changed.

So my stft are now bouncing between 21-26 so I guess my misfire is because it's just to high now to be properly burned or something on the lines ?

So my list of work has been -

new Bosch maf sensor
New oem dv
new coolant temp sensor
smoke tested
fpr regualtor seems to be clean and working
No leaks in the exhaust

so out of the list in post 4 there is only fuel injectors , vapour recovery system (would a clogged up PVC valve cause this ?) and cam timing

all help is appreciated !

its Adding fuel if its +

so its running Lean and trying to add fuel to achieve target lambda

what is 031 actually sitting at whilst 001 is +21-26%
