Hi Guys

Got stuck in fitting my TIP today, i struggled a bit at first and Bill is kindly sending me out an adaptor to extend one of my hoses, but i can't seem to get it to sit right on the air box without 'collapsing' the hose a bit. The guide suggests trimming a bit off the hose but i don't think that will fix my problem, it is as if my air box is too high? I'm not sure if maybe part of the maf housing itself wants trimming, or wether because its an import, my car has a slightly different air box.

I've attached a picture, hopefully someone can tell me what i've done wrong :)

Hi, having had one on my previous car the tip seemed to "cobra neck" on the bend. I took it to Mr badger for a health check and asked about that.
A little bit of cobra necking okay as long as its not a major squash on the bend.

cobra necking= flattening on bend

There is certainly some cobra necking, I won't worry if its ok as it is, I'm just puzzled that i'm having the opposite problem to what i should do. I've got a brand new piper cross panel filter, i'm not a fan on cone filters, particularly when i like to keep an OEM looking engine bay.

I too would stick with a panel filter if it went for one of these TIPs. Was you previous TIP the standard one? Have you done any logging? Does it feel any different/better?

I should do some logging, standard pipe on there before. Which blocks do I need to log on vagcom.

Il try taking 10mm off the maf end of the silicon hose and see how that improves things

I hate you all! Lol, What cone filter and head shield should i be looking at? I've spent nearly £2k since i bought the car a month ago including clutch and dmf, good job i only paid £1500 for the car.

I originally wanted to keep the standard airbox myself with the B5 TIP, but once I saw the gains of a cone filter, it was a no brainer really.

What are the gains from your experience of having a cone filter?

I had the B5 TIP and cone fitted at the same time, and had before and after RR aswell, think I gained 15bhp? off the top of my head, which is an amazing for an induction kit. The gains are through the rev range too, just feels livelier on the road.

One is not disconnected from the other I suspect.
purchase price vs expenditure thereafter

you are in a big club.... and going down the same path as others

Yeah my s3 felt restricted when I first bought it standard, fitted a b5 tip myself plus cone filter as it is reasonably cheap mod, and the car came alive, was going to work one morning and my work colleague was behind me in his Impreza wrx standard, a stretch of Tarmac opened up about 2 miles long, no traffic, and he couldn't get past me, was chuffed with that, or maybe he can't drive ha!

Bought filter this morning, and this evening i am picking up a non resonated miltek for a mere £280!

I've been looking for a second hand miltek for quite some time, never seem to find one!

Bought and fitted the cone filter instead. It's still got a slight kink, needs tweaking and data logging :)

Hows this look log wise now with the Tip all fitted etc? I think the silicon might need redoing on the turbo join to the billet adaptor. I dont know if i need to upload the log differently?

you hit 204g/s at one stage which is amazing. Using a rough calc that would estimate your bhp to be around 255 which is unreal.. What other mods does your car have? Been mapped?

Stage 1 remap from CCC-tech, badger 5 tip and induction kit. Forge recirc valve with 1 spring up from standard, milltek exhaust. :)
