Been about ten years since my last one, so was great to finally pick another one up!

bought this off a guy called Steven, who's monkey magic over on S2forum, nice bloke, and knows a fair bit about the 1.8t

So yeh long road trip south yesterday, finally got back here, Aberdeenshire, at lunch today!

i did see this car pop up in the pictures thread about 4 years ago, can't remember the owner at the time, suffice to say, it's pretty darn clean still!

still undecided on the wheels, would prefer, 18's complete Matt/satin black, but heh, they are cool all the same.

pics.....

United colors of Benetton anyone??

Well, that didnt take long!!! Steering rack has shat itself today! ****! **** bag luck! looking at recond part, new from audi is £700 + vat!!!

Are these a ***** to change, im guessing so?

Thats bad luck, mine went the other week and I went for a reconditioned one also as tps wanted 770+vat for my quattro lol, got it from this place Power Steering Specialists - Western Power Steering

It's actually a fairly straight forward job, easier on a ramp but can be done on the floor on axle stands if needs be. It's documented quite well on the net if you google it, as it's same job for mk4 golfs etc too and I found a few how to videos on youtube aswell.

Don't forget to refill it with the proper audi fluid too and not just generic p/s fluid.

This is a how to for the TT and it's lhd, but it's pretty much the same deal.

Your welcome, here's their ebay shop wps, I bought over the phone though as my rack wasn't listed and they'll give you 10% off if you mention their website which helps, but shop around and see what you can find :)

Bad news mate not a good start.
But Euro prices than Audi ...how do they come up with these ...think of a number and treble it ????

Not so good fella in such short time......

Sod the rack, that's a nice Audi S / RS stable! Not sure about those rims with Imola yellow though. I'd try completely matt black before replacing them.

Hi Doctor, yeh know what you mean, i think matt or satin. May even try silver, they are nice wheels, just not sure about the polished combo. May just keep them on and get a black set for winters!

Got the car back today! Fully operational again! Steering rack replaced, and new track rod ends done at the same time! Oh and got the Cambelt/waterpump done whilst it was with the garage!

Happy days!

So had a go at sorting out the catch can today, it was in it at some point but the previous owner took it out, and sort of bodged what was left.... I've gone from this which was simply two hoses, one from oil filter and one frame head gasket to a t-piece with a wee filter on it!...

To this...which has the catch can on the side of the battery, so comments welcome, not perfect by any stretch but better than what was there, did the piping and then realised that the 5v cover doesn't fit on very well. Comments welcome....

Oh and the dv I have is actually a baileys one. Is it normal for it to only have the input from the charge pipe and the wee pipe running out the top? As the oem one is plugged in to the TIP?

Not too much to update here, a bit of the plastic trim came loose under the drivers door and having a closer look, and using the search function on here, I got the lower trim off the door (two screws front and back and two behind wee rubber plugs, which dint have any screws on mine and didn't seem to affect it at all!) It pull backwards to come off, needed a fair yank! So got it off cleaned up everything, ten tiger sealed the loose bit back on and back on the car, very happy that it's sorted!

Ordered more plasti dip and will do the wing mirrors at some point.
Waiting for a price back from Stoke Audi on a 710n dv, so that I can get take the Baileys dv off (atmos one?)

And one other thing is I've managed to get hold of a cruise control kit from a guy local to me! Really looking forward to getting this on! So nice being able to use cruise for the 'cruise' in to work!

Still waiting on new rims for the car (bit of a story here, won't bore you)

and ndr woke up to frost on the car yesterday morning! Awesome!
