Took mine off to do the bushes, its not that hard.
    Take wheel off.
    Undo xenon level sensor.
Undo track rod end ball joint.
undo bottom ball joint, and seperate and then the other two bolts the hold the wishbone to the sub frame and pull out.
Putting new bushes in is the hard part, you need a press or take to a garage.
    Good luck

Takes a bout an hour each side.
If your handy with the spanners it should be less.
Hardest part was lining up the bolts to sub frame when putting back on.

I've changed wishbones on's few cars but not on the S3 and they are usually nota issue to do. Just remember the headlight adjuster on the passenger side (If I remember correctly). Also get the front wheel alignment done after as it is likey to be out due to the new bushes and the adjustable lower ball joints.

Yup, but no need to undo track rod end.

It helps to soak the wishbone bolts with penitraiting fluid or WD40 before you start. The rear one is not too bad, but the last thing you want to do is snap the front bolt or pull the treads in the subframe. If it goes tight work it with plenty of light oil.

You'll need to get a spanner onto the top nut on the rear of the wishbone. Front one goes into a captive.

I cracked off the bottom nuts for the ball joint first, before splitting the ball jing from the hub. If you take the wishbone off without doing this, it might be difficult to get them undone.

Nope they're not all the same size. Earlier wishbones on the S3 had a smaller bush (on the front inner IIRC)

Do 2000 onwards S3's have different front wishbones?

I've had them side by side and on top of each other when I was replacing mine and didn't see any major differences other than the bush size

I gained about 10 degrees of toe out when changing from small to large bush arms.

They don't look much different side by side, but its enough to throw things out a lot.
