Do other A3 (not S3 as they are more desirable) owners insure their car comprehensively? I am looking at quotes and there is £200+ difference in FC/TPFT and it doesn't seem worth it. All other cars I've only insured TFPT before as they were never worth much, and if anything happened to them they'd be written off as parts were sky high or unavailable (mk2 Escorts etc).

Having been living abroad I lost my 5yrs NCB and now have 1.5 years NCB with Admiral. I was paying £100pm now £87pm. I'm 30, self-employed (I put company director as job title), married, car is kept in a locked garage day and night and only used for SDP - I do have a baby on the way so I suppose it will go up compared to the prices below. I haven't been in touch with Admiral yet who are due to renew next month as I wanted to get some quotes to see if they can beat them, but the current quotes are:

FC - £700
TPFT - £478

Bear in mind the car was bought for £1,000.

What year, engine size etc?

Also NCB is in full years so it's either 1 or 2 years

I think I have 2 years NCB, a year younger than you, use for work and 3 points and insured S3 fully comp for £450. Your quotes seem a tad high for an A3 valued at £1k tbh though many factors will influence such as where it's insured to etc

All in my sig - 2000 facelift 1.8T. I appreciate the North East isn't great for postcodes but the A3 isn't as desirable as an S3 so you're either getting a really good deal or something is amiss with me. Maybe 12k miles per year social isn't looked favourably upon? I've tried different job titles (under the self-employed banner from company director, marketing manager, marketing director etc) too, maybe it's being self-employed that is the problem? I only got married last year so I have no idea if it will change things yet. I did notify them but all I got was the £20 admin charge added to my monthly payments.

£300 excess too!

That sounds expensive, think you need to do more shopping around.

Try greenlight, I pay 460 fully comp. Im 25 with 2 yr ncb and I use the car for sdp+commuting to work. Can is left in work car park all day and garaged at night. Mine is an a3 1.8t t reg. For the £460 I pay im coveed up to 180bhp and as many other mods as I want without a price increase

its cheeper to park it in the street for me????? garage or drive works out strange i know...

A lot of insurance companies charging less these days for cars parked on the street, because scumbags won't know which house has the keys, that's the theory anyway

I only paid 450 for my A3 1.8t and i live in the ghetto so TPFT was the only option, i'm 29 with 7yrs ncb and TPFT is 550 a year!

Used to pay under £504 fully comp with all mods declared on the slayer, 22, 5 years NCB and many many bhp.

Green light/Brentacre ftw.

Cheers guys, will give them a whirl. I just want some much better quotes to see if Admiral will match/beat them next month or they lose a customer.

Top tip - try adding your wife as a named driver (assuming she has some decent NCBs etc.) and that can sometimes bring your total cost down.

Thanks mate...unfortunately she doesn't have a license, but I don't doubt that it would still work LOL.

Good shout... I added my mum as a second driver (she's ancient!) knocked over 20% off... Well worth doing!

. . . . . Not a chance in hell she's ever driving it tho! lol

My mother is back at the end of the month for three months....so yeah...nice one :)

There's no guarantee the premium will drop of course, but worth a try bud. Also consider changing 'parked in the garage' to 'parked on the drive or street', this can drop the premium also! My S3 is parked in my garage when not in use, but I list it as parked on my drive, as it made sod all difference to the premium, and I do often return home in the early hours, so it's not in the garage every time it's not in use.

Most my cars are sheds so always 3rd party even my project car will be cause although I spent a fair amount on it if an accident occurs I can't see the insurance company replacing my forged rods, pistons an turbo etc,so I'd prob jus buy it back an keep wat I could!
