OEM Plus build

I will also be ordering rods, manifold & hybrid over the next few months. I wanted to get the work done with Bill like you are but in the end I couldn't cope with the thought of a 5hr round trip from Manchester :'( How did you manage to get in touch with Dan @ BBT??! :-D

How did you go about fitting the wheel specifically? I'm just cautious of doing anything with the airbag :/

Thanks, so if I phone GSF and literally ask for an audi s3 8l LUK dual mass flywheel, pressure plate and bearing they will send me the correct parts. Then contact Bill for the Sachs drive plate? Sorry if I seem dense I just don't want to order the wrong parts as I don't have a chuffin clue! This set-up is similar to standard in the way it feels/drives but is good for 450hp?

Cheers.

Yes it does feels very much like OEM, a bit bitey when picking up in first. Yes just give GSF your reg no they'll give the correct LuK DMF, LuK pressure plate and concentric slave cylinder (bearing)

I just phoned Dan :) mate Badger 5 is a 4 hr round trip for me, I just booked a hotel for when I dropped her in and made a weekend of it with the Mrs. And have booked the same again this coming weekend. I only want to get this work done once, so it was important for me to get the right people involved.

Thanks mate. I've never seen a contact number for Dan advertised. I've left a couple of messages through his website with no reply. I was also nervous if there were any teething troubles or return visits required the journey would soon get tiresome. I do admire your dedication though

Looking awesome mate!! Top work. Really looking forward to getting her back :)

Thanks for the update.

Great project. My old blue S3 was strictly OEM+, yours gives me memories of mine, and I originally had a plan to make it more powerful but stopped at Stage 2.

Definitely recommend Badger5 for the work.

How is the motor??

So I picked her up Friday, In a word it's awesome! I just can't believe it's the same car! She didn't quite make the 350 I was hoping for but 336 bhp is not far off and that's with 152k under her belt she's had a set of rods and all the other other mods of course, but no smoke what so ever and runs like OEM. Really pleased.

Ok so the drive, it's like OEM on steroids! Up until about 3k revs she drives very normal and after that, good god all hell breaks loose, you get pinned in your seat and it just pulls and pulls and the sound is amazing guessing that's the manifold/downpipe as the back box was already on there and it did not sound this good before!

On my stage 1 I'd change gear at 5.5k revs as she would of run out of puff and it felt like no point reving any further, but now it just keeps pulling way past 7k. Really impressed with the power delivery and the broad power band. Personally think it will only get better as the rings bed in, same as Bill saiid as it's only been run in for 3 hours or so.

Sunday morning I really upset a bker from the lights as he booted it from the lights I also put my foot down, I was and he was surprised I was keeping up with him, could of overtaken him as he let off for a bend :) but I backed off

Having a few bits finished off, so i went and drooped I it back off with Bill, picking her up next Saturday, can't wait :)

More details when I get her back, maybe a few sound clips/videos.

Cheers

What other bits was bill doing to it? When I get mine rebuilt, I'm running it in much longer.. Bill will have as much time as it takes, even if he has to use it as a personal car lol it's gonna be epic! Will have to come see your car one day bud!

I was having a Dogbone mount fitted, and swapping the Bosch Motorsport inline pump as it was too noisy for my liking (I'm a fussy old chap!)

As always Bill was very helpful and sorted it. The dogbone it's a yellow one, that loads of people have reported as being very harsh for vibrations, I can report its nothing of the sort feels like OEM in my opinion (and as I have said I'm fussy!) Pump swapped for a DA one, much much more too my liking a lot quieter.

Mate, it's really important to get the right people when getting any jobs done on a car! I'm really pleased with mine, I'll do more of a full report in a few weeks once I've had her back for a while. One thing I can say is Badger 5 ftw!! :)

Gops your more than welcome to come over to see the car. Chat cars over a samosa :)

Your damn right! I'm setting myself up for a BT build soon so will be bill conducting all the work! :) I feel the standard of work from bill is brilliant, it's what you'd expect from a specialist! I'd say let your car run in abit more, service it a few times and see what it makes after :)

Excellent write up :)

Also, coincidentally very similar to the work I'm planning to be done next year, so very glad its all gone well for you! How's that paddle clutch day to day?

Excellent read :) glad to see a good result!

You've certainly taken it to the right place, as a one stop shop that can do EVERYTHING, there simply is nowhere better :)

The clutch takes a little getting used too, main bit you need to get used too is pulling away smoothly at slow speed, it's very OEM in pedal feel and once moving changing gears is very smooth, but if you decide to pull away quickly or change gear quickly it just grips and launches you forward really awesome setup Tufty spec.

Cheers.

Ah brilliant, sounds like its the way for me then. I wonder how many miles it'll manage?

Totally agree with you, The team at Badger 5 really know there stuff, that's why I had them complete this conversion. And I'm really impressed with the way she drives, much better than I was expecting, the power delivery is both smooth and aggressive, it's really hard to describe. Seems to be getting better every time in drive her.

just realised i saw your car on the B5 rolling road day last week, looks absolutely amazing!

It is still running in its new rings.. so hopefully it is indeed getting more and more :)

That's what happened with mine! I felt it getting better and better! Even beat an E46 M3 CSL! It's more the torque that'll surge you away, people will have more Bhp but remember your running a new engine with lots of potential and would more likely have better drivability than them even if they have 10+Bhp! I got my kicks out of eating focus RS's for breakfast, then claiming that the car was standard haha! "You must have a boost leak mate!" :) ;)

Hi Guys,

I've had a few pm's asking me how the car is going so a little update:

So part from needing a new MAF, touch wood no problems what so ever, still pulls like a aeroplane taking off, as always never break the speed limit on the road but recently had a bit of fun with a Motorbike along a nearby bypass and he and I was surprised by how quick the car is, it's not about top speed more the way the car just picks up in any gear and just goes, the bike obviously pulled away on a long straight as I was stuck behind a car, but I soon caught up with him further down the road, then at some traffic lights he saw I had pulled up behind him, he rolled back and opened his helmet I thought here we go he's going too make some dodgy comment and he was like "f@@k me that has some pickup and go!! Properly quick that motor" I was like coming from you I I appreciate the feedback! Cheers mate. A little toot on the horn and we were off on our separate ways. Bike was a Honda CBR 600. Nice clean fun :) I really can't stop banging on about the in gear and off the line acceleration it's awesome and really addictive, you have to really play attention as things come up rather quickly, cars, roundabouts etc! And when you drive sensibly it's good on MPG, had trip up north 440 miles from a tank! Never had more than 350 miles on my old setup.

I can't thank Bill and his team at Badger 5 enough for building me my dream S3 it's exactly what I wanted drive wise just soooo much fun to drive. And of course BBT for a awesome turbo!

Changes/Mods Recently :

I changed my front brake pads to the Ferodo DS2500 really good pads, they grip so well, while bedding in I managed to skid the front wheels, ABS!!! ? What ABS! Pedal feel is nice and progressive.

I also had the side repeaters replaced with Mk4 Golf ones, I think they make the car look more modern (hopefully keeping the OEM plus look still) pics to follow.

Today she's going in for a spring swap as the Apex -30 are too low for me (old man!) and the family as she scrapes when everyone's n board, if I was on my own it would be perfect. So moving to the H&R's -25 that everyone has. Will report what I think later when I pick her up. I know it's only 5mm higher, no matter what some women say size matters lol, hoping that this little change is enough :) clearance at the rear.

Cheers
