Power steering leak, repair options?

Car (S3) has recently developed a power steering leak, typically it's the really expensive one that runs between the pump and rack and folds back on itself a few times, it's corroded through on the metal section.

Now I've read that this isn't uncommon and a few people have managed to repair this which I'd much rather do, my question is what's the easiest and most reliable way to do this? Can I just chop out the corroded metal section and replace with hydraulic hose, if so how do I connect the metal pipe to the hose? I assume simply matching the o/d of the pipe to the I/d of some hose and clamping up isn't going to be strong enough?

The metal pipe running at the front of the car? It's a cooling pipe and it's around £60 brand new. Best thing to do it replace it rather than bodging it. I replaced mine and it's great!
 
No, unfortunately not, it's the one that runs from the rack, over the gearbox then bends back and forth a few times before going to the pump, £200+ from Audi.
 
I'm actually looking to replace the same hose/pipe assembly on my project car. It's a hydraulic hose which is crimped to a steel cooler pipe, then banjo bolted to the rack on the passenger side.
I personally will be buying a 7 row oil cooler and building my own 2wire hoses to suit since I have the facility to manufacture swaged hose. However if you have a hydraulic specialist near by, you could hand them the entire assembly, I bet they'd quote a fraction of what audi charge and have it made in 10min. I wasn't going to tackle this just yet as I have a mountain of parts to clean and service, but I can look into the dimensions and fittings required tomorrow, IF I can locate some stainless pipe of the right I.D. And fit some compression fittings to suit, I May be able to help you out.
 
There are two places that I know of, one local and one near where I'm working currently, that would be able to do it, it's just I'm struggling to get the pipe off to take to them. I was hoping to get all the bits together that I'm going to need then take it to a garage I use regularly who is happy to give it a go but doesn't want it sat on his ramp while I try and get it repaired.

If you could measure the diameter of the metal section that would be great, I've no doubt I can get something knocked up locally, it's just I don't have any calipers yet. It seems to be either 12mm or 1/2".
 
Probable imperial but I'll definitely check it out tomorrow.

I've seen it done with hose on YouTube on a tt by bws tt in one of his videos and just kept a short length. After asking tufty a while back he said wouldn't cool as much
