Engine Light On After Cambelt Replacement..

Basically i had my cambelt done with all the other usual bits by a friend. After collecting the car and driving it home the eml came on... error code 17748 camshaft position sensor. After speaking to him he has suggested that it maybe a tooth out and will need repositioning... which is fine. I havent driven the car since but if i do will i be doing any damage too it or should i wait until its fixed? It drove as normal when i collected. Thanks.
