AmD Stage 1 - Complete!

Well it finally happened. A two and a half hour trip to Bicester and my S3 was remapped.

I have to say it was totally painless (apart from the bill!). Many thanks again to WAKTT
for organising the session. AmD made it a really relaxing affair and even let me view the
car performing its power runs.

As with most things it didnt go to plan as my MAF had failed. The chart shows my stock run
at 185bhp!!! but with a replaced MAF at 209bhp. Then the real work took it to 258.8bhp @ 5900
with 260 lb/ft @ 3700.

What an amazing difference!

I would recommend AmD anytime, they knew their stuff inside out and were willing to help at
any time - really nice people.

The remap is fantastic, when I first had the S3 I thought it was fast, but now its mapped?

I`m smiling right now and I`m not even driving it..

If anyone is thinking about doing it... call me I`ll give you directions..

Cheers all

Dik

There are some pics below for those of you who are interested to see the rolling road, etc, note the
TT (which was back in Cirencester btw)

Mate of mine has a black/black TT sport with the 245 bhp engine, nice, but bery firm ride, and although great bucket seats, they make it hard to get in and out as the sides are so tall, and would be pretty unforgiving on a motorway run.

in reference to the above post - reccommending Revo.

No, not compared to an AmD map and definately not compared to what seems to be the current best mapping solution which is Custom Code.

Revo could be good for the 5 hour trial though, so you know how much better the car can perform.

Have you had revo?
Revo is a good bit of kit with the ability to tune yourself to a degree using vag-com and put back to standard. It also available all round the uk.
In my opinion at the moment jabba and mrc(minhea) are the best .

What sort of 0-60 are you looking at with a stage one remap ? also why does AMD up the power to 260 when others will do 270 ?

Thanks

Matt

That old chestnut!

I very strongly believe that the figures that are prodced by all the leading chip manufacturers and suppliers are as near as sensible tolerances allow the same.

The question is best answered by why does company a "claim" 270 when company b "claims" 260...

It's all a bit of a scam, and you should expect on a decent, reliable rolling road about 250-260bhp and 250-260lbft of torque.

Some companies will give you a bit of paper saying you have 270 -280 bhp - but head to head with a "260" car I bet my trousers they'll put the same performance in.

so how about approx 0-60 figures jus as an idea, bhp doesnt mean alot if the power cant be put down.

An S3 will have no problem putting that kind of power down.

Re: AmD Stage 1 - Complete!

If the 0-62 "book" figures for a standard 225bhp is 6.5 then I reckon it's probably 6.0 with the remap. I'm thinking of strapping my mobile to the steering wheel to record the 0-60!

However, as has been said lots of times before, the 0-100 is a much better indication of the car's performance, particularly as you lose half a second changing into 3rd before you hit 60mph!

As far as stated BHP goes, my AMD printout said 261BHP but another specialist I spoke to reckoned they were "generous figures" and that 250BHP was nearer the true BHP for any stage 1.

BHP sells. If one tuner claims 255BHP then a competitor is going to claim 260, just to make them seem more attractive.

Re: AmD Stage 1 - Complete!

I was quite sceptical of the peak figures my car achieved. But, even with high reading rollers, the difference in power and torque would surely still be accurate? My car managed +40bhp and + 70lbft. So unless the car started with figures below book, that's still impressive.

As has been said here many times before though, it's not about the figures but about the way the car drives (the shape of the graph). My AmD map drives very much like standard but just with much more 'shove' when the turbo comes in. It also seems to rev more freely.

Re: AmD Stage 1 - Complete!

Well so far, in terms of putting the power down, the only ever occassion that the s3 cant grip is when our well built valleys roads have 'ramps' out of roundabouts.. and then the odd wheel lifts too much - but esp and the quattro sort that out quite quickly.

However I`ve yet to try a mapped, wet roundabout exit, full throttle without esp switched on.....

As you get used to the remap its truly amazing how much power the car didnt have. Low end torque is fantastic.

Well done to AMD and by the way I recall that a revo trial will stop you having an AMD one click, but a rolling session is fine?

can anyone confirm that?

Re: AmD Stage 1 - Complete!

Before AmD can remap you need to remove the Revo trial software. I believe they charge around 100 to do this. Unless you actually visit AmD then they can't do this and that's why you can't use the generic map OneClick.

I think your's is a bit more than a stage one remap though Ryan!

I have managed to get all 4 wheels to spin in my standard S3, but the tyres were cold and it was wet / muddy on the roads and it required pretty serious clutch abuse!

I had to have a new clutch which I put down to the remap. Of course, impossible to prove but mine started slipping three months after the remap. I now have an uprated clutch which cost nearly a grand.

I believe Audi detuned the S3 / TT etc to 225BHP so it was more suitable for mass market, and the parts would last accordingly.

Make sure you declare it to your insurance company too!

Re: AmD Stage 1 - Complete!

We shall find out soon enough people,

A must agree that AMD are a quality outfit, I have an Oettinger remap which has been great for the past two years...

I have taken the car to AMD for the first time for an uprated clutch and developed an ECU fault a few days prior...

They are sorting out everything and have temporarily swapped me over to the AMD remap swo I have now experienced both Oettinger and AMD remaps on the same car...

I wont divulge which I think is better just yet... remember the AMD is half the cost of an Oettinger remap.

I have been convinced the car had a slight misfire on the car for possibly over a year and three trips to an Audi Dealer has failed to diagnose a fault and yet AMD picked up on it in two minutes flat!!!

They are performance testing it on Saturday, putting a DV valve into it and testing the power with and without remaps so it will be interesting to see the results!!!

Regardless of remaps, AMD are people you can trust your car with. Outstanding!

Keep u posted

Re: AmD Stage 1 - Complete!

Memory Checksum errors apparently... in the ECU.. not related to the chip implant...

Until they prove me wrong, I will keep faith with AMD and see how it goes...

As for the remaps... I do a lot of motorway driving and there is a HUGE difference in the remaps at 70 and above... one gives much more torque and accelleration at the higher speeds than the other

AmD I assume? I have an AmD map and the car pulls harder at 100 than it does at 70. Not very licence friendly but lots of fun!
