Erm... why? just curious as timing is as simple as TDC on cyl 1 for crank (there are also markings on the pulley and lower belt cover) and the cams have a notch in the cam chain sprockets that line up with an arrowhead on the end cam caps (gearbox end with cam cover off) or with cam cover on the a timing mark on the cam pulley lines up to a mark on the cam cover

Move had problems for a long time with the timing. Think someone in the past has screwed it up p17748 code. Arrows on cam caps only line up with one notch srtropping it on sat so I'll take some picks. Thanks for the quick reply liking the work you've got going on with yours at the mo. Bet you can't wait for it to be finished. Also off topic question once timing is sorted can a apy have the launch control and full throttle options mapped in to it?

A 17748 code is normally belt related...
    17748/P1340/004928 - Ross-Tech Wiki

...best way to check is pull out the plug in cyl 1... put a long screwdriver or stick gently into the sparkplug hole so it touches the top of the piston then with a 19mm socket/spanner turn the crank until cyl one is on TDC (stick will rise then stop and start to go down again... you need to stop it where its 'peaked' for TDC)... check timing marks on crank pulley..

    ...and check on cam pulley...

...TDC is the most important bit... all timing adjustments are relative to TDC... if the cam pulley is out (easily done, normally by 1 tooth) then thats a case of having to compress the tensioner damper to slacken the belt and re-align...

If the timing marks line up then you need to take the cam cover off and check the cam chain... the exhaust one should be aligned to the mark on the cam cap at this point if crank and cam pulleys are correct.. the inlet cam can give the illusion its out due to the cam chain tensioner... I normally gently turn the cam pulley over to get he inlet aligned then back it up to realign the exhaust letting the tensioner rise... should be evident if this is out...

Should be 16 rollers from exhaust cam mark to inlet cam mark...
