The time had come to get the winters back on, so I sent my bashed 1 to a local fabricators to be straightened up ready for painting in the shed......

Then it was a few coats of satin black .... these are rh cup reps I believe but I may be wrong... I bought em off a mate cheap to use as winters last year.

Then off to the tyre shop to have my Continental winter sport 3 put back on , brilliant tyres!

It was a sunny weekend and so decided I would spend the whole weekend detailing my car as she hadnt been polished since the spring.

First off wash and claybar, its surprising what the clay takes off! .I de- tarred her aswell.
Post wash.....

Then it was time to give me mate Issac a call to borrow his trusty polisher. I used mequires ultimate compound to polish the car .. awesome results, eliminated all swirl marks.
The next day (sun) I gave the car a coat of Autoglym hd wax, polishd the glass and buffed the chrome . It looked so nice I thought " Im gonna grab the mrs and get some fish n chips down by the sea" there wasnt even time to grab the camera for a picture.
It was on the way to the sea side that I was confronted by an out of control speeding mini , on my side of the road coming round a corner....here are the results.......

as you may have guessed , im pretty annoyed .....

cheers Kryton

Glad you are both OK . As said Metal can be replaced.
I know you don't feel like that at the moment, but it could have been a lot worsts

maaaate, that sucks!! Sorry to hear it, but very glad that everyone's ok!!

ahhh mate that's rough! glad there are no serious injures though. I had the exact same thing with a mini coming around a blind bend on the wrong side of the road, thankfully i was far enough back for the mini to take evasive action and end up in a hedge (french driver...) my heart didn't stop pounding for the entire drive home, almost scared the life out of me

Ahhh man, that's ****! Hope your doing alright though! What's the outcome from the insurance so far?

Jeeesh what a turn for the worst. I am glad that you and your other half are okay though. Cars can always be replaced. I didn't even read the thread title fully and just started reading and looking at pictures, totally caught me off guard.

good to hear you and the mrs are ok, and hope your claim goes through ok aswell bud

Nice one for the comments guys both on the mend.... my insurance company on the other hand..... this incident happened on 24th I heard from them regarding hire car but nothing about my car or engineers decision as to what's happening until they called me today to say my car had a different air filter on it. This means I owe an additional 296 quid on my premium, and they process my claim till I pay up, even though the other guy admitted full liability.

That's ridiculous how does an air filter add £296 to a premium, and how does it have anything to do with the incident especially when the other guy's admitted full liability.

This is what I don't understand I have been with churchill for years never claimed or bothered them for anything ever and still not looking to claim from them. Its an extortion racket, I'll just take the bus in future. Am I able to persue this through the other guys insurance?
The police sent me a letter saying they are calling it a blip in concentration.... hmmmm

My claim for the car, as he admitted liability.

My claim for the car, as he admitted liability.

For your car/excess/personal accident/hire car rental/legal expenses/admin etc yes - but I would eat my hat if they also stumped up the £296 difference you need to pay your insurance company for this air filter mod if that's what you mean?

Yeah I meant deal with his insurance rather than mine to recover money owed for car etc

You dont Need your insurance company to pursue the claim, you can do it yourself, or get a third party solicitor, if he as admitted liability, whats your insurances problem? they make a few quid out of handling it too..
Unless you both have the same INS company.... ;)

But the OP needs to pay this remainder for his insurance to be valid now! If claiming off another person who has admitted liability, I always bypass my own insurance company and use a claims specialist, which are usually free.

Yeah I understand churchill and direct line are the same? Would they same the same thing? No pay out till I square up difference on my premium?

Your insurance wont be paying you out, sort that out separately with the air filter...They cannot stop a claim or put it on hold , you are not claiming off your insurance!
As Jo and i said get a 3rd party to claim for you..

The policy was set up without the air filter mod advised.

An accident where it wasn't your fault has then occurred and an engineer would have gone out to view the vehicle and report the damage and state of the vehicle back to the TP insurer. As it seems as though both insurers are under the same umbrella- then this information would have been shared.

Either way that information is something the insurers can pass between each other....therefore when your insurance company would have been advised that your vehicle has been modified and it's not on your policy - your insurance company has the duty to chase you for this, otherwise they have been made aware your policy is not correct for the risk and therefore to carry on insuring you with an incorrect policy is something no company wants to be in the position in as they would be breaking so many regulations.

Its the same with points on your licence and claims you don't advise to the insurers in the first place.....when a claim occurs this is usually when the insurers will go through your policy with a fine tooth comb to try and identify any incorrect details you may have entered and get you to pay the difference or in some cases return money if the risk is decreased.

ok thanks guys for your replies .... can Jo Jo or s3dave recommend a 3rd party claims specialist? Churchill wont even tell me where my car is so that I can collect my belongings. I was taken away in an ambulance so didnt have chance to grab my sat nav etc. :keule:

That's bad news about the car :( I should think it will be in the police compound, if it was anywhere near exeter then it will be on sowton.

I think this is a bit disgraceful, ok most of us have done it ..not telling all the facts on modifications, but an airfilter is hardly a GT40...
Hope its a lesson learnt to disclose everything, but that aside you are the victim here and getting treated as the villain.. try giving these a ring...

Can i ask sort of airfilter mod it was ??? i mean if it was a full induction system mod thats one thing but would you declare just changing the panel filter for say a K&N ??? no power gains just a servicability thing

try threaten them with the insurance ombudsman, or even try talk to the ombudsman 1st see what they legally can do ?
just a thought

The car was recovered to crediton and then taken elsewhere by insurance company . They did say over a week ago that they would send my belongings to me, but still not shown up.

have been in touch with a couple accident managment firms and explained my situation and they all say they can help ... has anyone has any good or bad experiences with these firms and can anyone reccomend a reliable one?
